Abstract:
A method for providing navigation instructions on a device is described. As the device traverses a navigated route according to a first mode of transportation, the method displays a first turn-by-turn navigation presentation defined for the first mode. Based on data gathered by the device, the method determines that the device is navigating the route according to a second mode of transportation. The method automatically displays a second, different turn-by-turn navigation presentation defined for the second mode.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a haptic navigation system, configured for providing a haptic instruction to a user, and to a method for providing a haptic instruction to a user. The haptic navigation system comprises a navigation module comprising a route calculation unit, configured for calculating at least one route for the user to go to a predetermined destination, and a user interaction unit, configured for capturing at least one input parameter from the user, and a feedback unit configured for receiving an instruction sent from the navigation module and for converting the instruction received into a haptic instruction such that the user find the correct route. In this way, a haptic navigation system is provided which is reliable, cost-effective to realize and can easily be integrated into existing navigation systems while at the same time making it possible to get rid of displays or voice recognition in navigation applications.
Abstract:
A method of providing assistance for the blind or otherwise visually impaired is provided. A user utilizes a mobile device to communicate with a remote operator in the event that the user is in need of assistance in orienting themselves with their surroundings or locating and viewing objects. The mobile device connects to a remote server through a data connection, providing audio, video, and other data communication with an operator.
Abstract:
A method for controlling a map is provided. The method comprises displaying a map on a display module of a mobile terminal and registering a point on the map, selected by using at least one of a user input unit and a sensing unit, as a shortcut point and displaying a shortcut icon on the map.
Abstract:
A mobile platform includes one or more haptic feedback elements that are positioned in regions of the mobile platform that are proximate to a facial region of a user while the user holds the mobile platform to an ear. By way of example, the haptic feedback elements may be electric force elements that overlay a display or vibrating or thermal elements. The mobile platform is capable of determining a current location and receiving a desired location, which may be, e.g., a location provided by the user, a location with superior signal strength or of another mobile platform. The mobile platform determines directions from the present location to the current location and translates the direction in to control signals. Haptic signals are produced to the facial region of the user by the haptic feedback elements in response to the control signals, thereby providing the directions to the user.
Abstract:
A system for providing information to a vehicle occupant includes a haptic control element which is provided in the vehicle and is configured to generate a haptic signal. An electronic control unit is operatively connected to the haptic control element and activates the haptic control element in order to indicate with a haptic signal that information is available for retrieval.
Abstract:
A data processing apparatus and a method of operating a data processing apparatus are disclosed. The data processing apparatus comprises a memory for storing target location data representative of the location of a target, a position determining component configured to generate a position signal representative of a position of the data processing apparatus, and an orientation determining component configured to generate an orientation signal representative of an orientation of the data processing apparatus. The data processing apparatus also comprises a haptic transducer configured to provide haptic feedback to a user of the data processing apparatus and a processor configured to process the target location data, position signal and orientation signal in order to generate a transducer control signal that is configured to actuate the haptic transducer to provide directional haptic feedback to a user relative to the target location.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method of indicating to a vehicle operator a desired left/right direction of a turn required to follow a desired route generated by a navigation system. Haptic stimuli are provided to the operator in advance of the turn point by activating vibration generators to create vibrations in a steering input controller, such as a steering wheel, contacted by one or both hands of the operator. The vibration generators are activated in a sequence to generate haptic stimuli that are distinguishable by the operator as progressing through the steering input controller in a pattern indicating a left turn versus a pattern that indicates a right turn. Additional information related to the turn point is haptically communicated, such as a required lane change, a traffic signal, or a relative sharpness of the turn.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a direction guide vibration system of a vehicle operating with a navigation and control method thereof, which applies vibration to a driver's seat on which a driver sits at the spot where a left turn or a right turn and a U turn are expected, on a path to move to a driver's intended destination, informs a driver thereof in advance for people and the hearing impaired using a navigation and informs the driver thereof before an enforcement area in which an over-speed camera is installed, thereby securing a safe driving of a vehicle.
Abstract:
A method and an apparatus for walk guidance are disclosed. First, a mobile device receives a start point and an end point so as to create a plurality of voice suggestion points. Next, the mobile device is in a walk guidance mode. When the present location is closer to one of a plurality of voice suggestion points within a predetermined distance, the mobile device sends a non-voice guidance message to remind the user, so as to avoid missing the planned route.
