    摘要: The object of this invention is to provide a method for detecting conformational change of calmodulin easily and simply in a short period, quantitatively and in real-time manner, and to provide a method for screening a substance having an activity that affects to conformational change of calmodulin efficiently among numerous substances. To solve the object, a method is provided and the method comprising; subjecting a test sample to be tested for its activity to a sample film comprising calmodulin, detecting change(s) in tension and/or elasticity of the sample film in comparison with prior to subjecting said test sample using a mechanochemical sensor, thereby it enables real-time and short time measurement of the activity of said test sample to induce or to inhibit conformational change of calmodulin.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for screening combinatorial libraries of materials by measuring the response of individual library members to mechanical perturbations is described. The apparatus generally includes a sample holder for containing the library members, an array of probes for mechanically perturbing individual library members, and an array of sensors for measuring the response of each of the library members to the mechanical perturbations. Library members undergoing screening make up a sample array, and individual library members constitute elements of the sample array that are confined to specific locations on the sample holder. During screening, the apparatus mechanically perturbs individual library members by displacing the sample array (sample holder) and the array of probes. Typically, all of the elements of the sample array are perturbed simultaneously, but the apparatus also can also perturb individual or groups of sample array elements sequentially. The flexible apparatus and method can screen libraries of materials based on many different bulk physical properties, including Young's modulus (flexure, uniaxial extension, biaxial compression, and shear); hardness (indentation), failure (stress and strain at failure, toughness), adhesion (tack, loop tack), and flow (viscosity, melt flow indexing, and rheology), among others.

    摘要: The present invention is a real-time spatial particulate mass deposition tester. The tester is based on the principle that an anisotropic fill density distribution would result in an uneven particulate vertical pressure distribution on the inside face of the bottom surface of the die. Further, this uneven particulate vertical pressure distribution can be detected by placing multiple, sufficiently sensitive load cells on the inside surface at the bottom of the die, and analyzing the output signals acquired from the load cells using any suitable data acquisition system.

    摘要: A tool for measuring the extent of decay in a wooden object, comprising an elongated probe adapted to be inserted in an inspection hole drilled in the wooden object. The tool has at least one barb protruding therefrom adjacent to one end of the probe. The barb is designed to engage a side wall of the inspection hole so as to shear wood fibers in the side wall as the probe is withdrawn. There is indicator mechanically coupled to the probe for measuring the amount of pull-force required to shear the wood fibers in the inspection hole. The indicator includes a deflector mechanically connected to the other end of the probe and adapted to provide a measurable deflection as the pull-force required to shear the wood fibers increases. In use, when the pull-force exceeds a predetermined value, the indicator provides an indication of a transition within the wooden object from decaying wood to sound wood.
