Abstract: Hollow fiber membranes, membrane contactors, and related production and use methods. The membranes include a substrate having a multiplicity of pores and a skin layer overlaying the porous substrate. The porous substrate includes a first semi-crystalline thermoplastic polyolefin (co)polymer resin and a nucleating agent in an amount effective to achieve nucleation. The skin layer includes a second semi-crystalline thermoplastic polyolefin (co)polymer resin derived by polymerizing at most 98 wt. % of 4-methyl-1-pentene monomer with at least 2 wt. % of linear or branched alpha olefin monomers. Preferably, the first thermoplastic polyolefin (co)polymer is different from the second thermoplastic polyolefin (co)polymer. The skin layer is less porous than the porous substrate and forms an outer surface of the hollow fiber with the porous substrate forming an inner surface. The hollow fibers are formed by co-extruding the porous substrate resin and the skin layer resin through an annular die.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method for forming a transport mechanism for transporting at least one of a gas or a liquid. The method may comprise using a 3D printing operation to form the mechanism with an inlet and an outlet, and controlling the 3D printing operation to create the mechanism as an engineered surface structure formed in a layer-by-layer process. The method may further comprise controlling the 3D printing operation such that the engineered surface structure includes a plurality of cells propagating periodically in three dimensions, with non-intersecting, non-flat, continuously curving wall portions which form two non-intersecting domains, and where the wall portions have openings forming a plurality of flow paths extending in three orthogonal dimensions throughout from the inlet to the outlet, and such that the engineered cellular structure has wall portions having a mean curvature other than zero.

The polymer composite article includes a composite region having a first porous polymer comprising a plurality of pores and the retained solids. The composite region has at least a portion of the retained solids immobilized within some of the pores. In embodiments where the retained solids are solid sorbent materials, the article is configured to receive carbon dioxide through the first porous polymer that can be adsorbed onto the solid sorbent.

Abstract: A polymeric hollow fiber membrane is provided having a crosslinked selective layer formed by sequentially performing coating of a polymer precursor on a crosslinked polymeric hollow fiber membrane support and thermal condensation and thermal crosslinking thereof, a carbon molecular sieve hollow fiber membrane, methods for producing the same, and methods of separating gases using the same. The polymeric hollow fiber membrane and the carbon molecular sieve hollow fiber membrane each have a thin crosslinked selective layer and excellent plasticization resistance and separation performance. Accordingly, the polymeric hollow fiber membrane and the carbon molecular sieve hollow fiber membrane, each of which has a thin crosslinked selective layer, can be effectively used in the separation of a mixed gas.
