A process for producing a laminate by coating a continuous first layer of a film forming material onto a release sheet, distributing flock fibers uniformly onto the first layer, drying the first layer to form a film and secure the flock fibers thereto in a substantially upstanding position, coating the tips of the flock fibers with a flock adhesive, marrying the flocked film to a substrate backing layer such that the coated tips contact the said substrate layer, permanently setting the flock adhesive, and then removing the release sheet. Laminates obtained by such method are also described.

A bonded non-woven fabric comprises a non-woven layer containing multicomponent, preferably bicomponent, fibers or filaments bonded to each other at cross-over points by means of adhesive derived from at least one of the components, with flock fibers bonded to at least some of the fibers or filaments of the non-woven layer, said flock fibers being oriented in all directions and some, preferably most of the flock fibers penetrating into or through the non-woven layer.A method of making such non-woven fabrics comprises forming and bonding a non-woven layer of multicomponent fibers or filaments, applying adhesive thereto, applying flock fibers, preferably as a suspension in a gaseous fluid, and finally drying or curing the adhesive.
Abstract:
A breathable flame resistant fabric construction having a pile surface providing desired hand and dyeability, along with the porosity necessary to provide breathability. The fabric construction is formed by bonding flock fibers to the surface of a fiberglass base fabric by means of a polymeric adhesive which in the presence of heat will release flame quenching gases, blocking the flow of oxygen to the normally flammable flock fibers. It has been found that if the base fabric is first coated with a plasticizer before applying the polymeric adhesive, such as employed to secure the flock fibers to the fiberglass, the subsequently applied adhesive will coat the fiberglass yarns constituting the fabric without producing an adhesive film extending over the spaces between yarns, leaving air passing interstices in the fiberglass base fabric, and additionally improve the hand of the base fabric by providing for an increase in "elastic slippage" (i.e. slippage permitting distortion with a subsequent return to original condition) between the yarns making up the base fabric, thus increasing flexibility of the base fabric, and the composite fabric construction.
Abstract:
A flocked weatherstrip is provided for sealing the space between two relatively movable closure members such as sliding doors. The weatherstrip includes a plastic base strip mounting on one of the closure members and having a body of elongated fibers attached to a surface thereof for sealing engagement with the other closure member. The body of flocked fibers includes two groups of interspersed elongated fibers of common material having different deniers and lengths, whereby the body of fibers is of greatest density adjacent the surface of the strip.

Disclosed are a swab flocking device and a flock blowing and flocking process for a swab. A conveying drag chain transversely penetrates through a flocking box, several swab hangers are arranged on the conveying drag chain at intervals, and the conveying drag chain is connected to a first motor. Several blowers are arranged on an outer side of the conveying drag chain in the flocking box. During flocking, a swab stick is hung on the swab hanger and then is conveyed forwards by the conveying drag chain, and several blowers are configured to blow flocks onto an end head of the swab stick.

This invention relates to a process for the manufacture of an inner flock coating for vehicles with an indicative and/or decorative motif, which inner flock coating is made up of a support, an adhesive layer and a flock layer made up of a set of fibers adhered to the support via the adhesive layer, wherein said motif is located on a visible surface of said inner coating and wherein said motif is performed by the combination of at least two visibly different areas of the coating, a first area and a second area on which a laser beam is applied.

Shaped microporous articles are produced from polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and nucleating agents using thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) processes. The shaped microporous article is oriented in at least one direction at a stretch ratio of at least approximately 1.1 to 1.0. The shaped article may also comprise a diluent, glyceryl triacetate. The shaped microporous article may also have the micropores filled with a sufficient quantity of ion conducting electrolyte to allow the membrane to function as an ion conductive membrane. The method of making a microporous article comprises the steps of melt blending polyvinylidene fluoride, nucleating agent and glyceryl triacetate; forming a shaped article of the mixture; cooling the shaped article to cause crystallization of the polyvinylidene fluoride and phase separation of the polyvinylidene fluoride and glyceryl triacetate; and stretching the shaped article in at least one direction at a stretch ratio of at least approximately 1.1 to 1.0.
Abstract:
Protective, multi-layered, breathable fabric constructs having dynamic or static antimicrobial compositions incorporated into adhesive components. The flexible constructs employ a fabric layer and a breathable coating layer applied to the fabric. Under certain preferred embodiments, the fabric constructs also employ an energy dissipating fiber material disposed opposite the coating layer. Also, the present invention teaches a method of protecting a valuable or sensitive object from damage caused by corrosion, weather, biomass, or other environmental related conditions using the fabric material. The fabric constructs may be post-formed using heat or other methods to create shaped-to-form covers.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for adjusting the relative movement between flocked fibers and an object to be flocked is disclosed. Fibers move along a curved or arcuate path which includes both vertical and horizontal movement of the fibers from a flocking machine to the object to be flocked. The method improves the flocking process quality and increases production speed and output.
