摘要: A technique for encoding a signal used in a digital communication system in which individual traffic channel data rates may be adapted to specific channel conditions. In particular, a forward error correction coding rate is adapted for individual channels while at the same time maintaining a fixed block size independent of the FEC coding rate. This allows the system data rate to adapt to the channel conditions experienced by a specific user. Thus, users experiencing good communication conditions with low multipath distortion may be allocated higher capacity, whereas users with significant multipath distortion may make use of lower rate (higher levels of coding) error codes to maintain high quality. Messages are sent from a transmitter to a receiver to inform the receiver of the coding rate implemented at any given point in time. These parameters may be adjusted independent of transmitted power level through the expedient of ensuring that size of a transmitted frame remains constant, while permitting the ability to change FEC coding rates and FEC block sizes.

摘要: A method and apparatus for creating non-interfering coded signals to be simultaneously transmitted over a common frequency in a wireless communication systems, such as a CDMA system, at various data rates and without the use of orthogonal codes and/or orthogonal code generation techniques. The system provides cascaded arrangement of code modulations which each include a channel sequence combiner and selector. The channel sequence combiner receives an input signal and a repetitive maximum length channel sequence and combines these signals to produce a combined signal. The selector receives the input signal, the combined signal, and a repetitive strobe signal, and selects either the input signal or the combined signal to produce an encoded signal based upon a value of the repetitive strobe signal.

摘要: An antenna apparatus which can increase capacity in a cellular communication system. The antenna operates in conjunction with a mobile subscriber unit and provides a plurality of antenna elements, each coupled to a respective signal control component such as a switch. The switch position of each antenna element is programmed for optimum reception during, for example, an idle mode which receives a pilot signal. The antenna array creates a beamformer for signals to be transmitted from the mobile subscriber unit, and a directional receiving array to more optimally detect and receive signals transmitted from the base station. By directionally receiving and transmitting signals, multipath fading is greatly reduced as well as intercell interference. Various techniques for determining the proper arrangement of signal control components for each antenna element are accommodated.

摘要: A system, methods, and apparatuses are provided for valuation and exchange of stored value assets, information of value, and the transfer of value to or among individuals. The exchanged assets may be of a similar nature, e.g., music files exchanged for other music files, and exchange or trade of information such as rewards value or a restaurant coupon. The exchanged assets may also be other dissimilar assets exchanged between individuals and/or entities. The exchange may be initiated in numerous ways such as after completing a review, exchanging or trading a gift card, a prepaid card, a reward card, a coupon, a ticket, a pass, and/or the like when in proximity to a specific location or a location of some type or category, and/or exchanging or trading of other assets between individuals based on one or more constraints such as time, location, need, desire for the assets, and/or proximity.

摘要: A repeater is configured to selectively generate and transmit control message packets between wireless stations on both a transmit side and a receive side of the repeater. The repeater manages and manipulates an end to end protocol of the control message packets in a manner that does not change media access control (MAC) addresses of the end to end protocol so as to achieve a network objective, such as preventing other transmitters from transmitting while the repeater repeats a signal from its receive side to its transmit side. The control message management is applicable to analog signal repeaters as well as digital repeaters, such as symbol to symbol or packet to packet repeaters, in which physical layer control message management is performed.

摘要: Data rate allocation decisions are made for a communications channel. A message is sent on a communication channel such as on a paging channel. The message indicates a forward Effective Radiate Power (ERP) of a pilot signal transmitted. The remote station then determines the received signal strength of this pilot signal, taking into account receiver gains. The path loss may be estimated as the difference between the forward ERP data value received and the detected received pilot power. This transmit power level information is encoded as a digital data word together with the forward path loss information. Upon transmission, the forward path loss estimate as calculated and the output power value can then help determine the amount of excess power available. This is indicative of the amount of dynamic range available in the transmit power amplifier. Coding rates which require a higher dynamic range may be acceptable for use.

摘要: A system for wireless data transmission that uses a channel bandwidth, channel separation, and radio frequency power spectrum which is compatible with existing deployments of wireless voice services. The transmitted waveforms are thus compatible with existing cellular networks. However, the time domain digital coding, modulation, and power control schemes are optimized for data transmission. Existing cellular network sites can thus be used to provide a high speed service optimized for wireless data traffic without the need for new radio frequency planning, and without interfering with existing voice service deployments.
