    摘要： Various embodiments of optical fiber designs and fabrication processes for ultra small core fibers (USCF) are disclosed. In some embodiments, the USCF includes a core that is at least partially surrounded by a region comprising first features. The USCF further includes a second region at least partially surrounding the first region. The second region includes second features. In an embodiment, the first features are smaller than the second features, and the second features have a filling fraction greater than about 90 percent. The first features and/or the second features may include air holes. Embodiments of the USCF may provide dispersion tailoring. Embodiments of the USCF may be used with nonlinear optical devices configured to provide, for example, a frequency comb or a supercontinuum.

    摘要： This invention provides water-swellable articles and hydrogels that contain a hydrophilic polymer and perfluorocyclobutane crosslinking segments. The perfluorocyclobutane crosslinking segments are covalently attached to the polymeric chains of the hydrophilic polymer so that the crosslinking segments chemically link the polymeric chains to each other. The present invention also provides a method of making a crosslinked hydrogel by first attaching one or more substituted aromatic trifluorovinyl or aromatic trifluorovinyl ether moieties to a hydrophilic polymer to form a modified polymer and then heating the modified polymer at an elevated temperature to form perfluorocyclobutane segments from the trifluorovinyl or trifluorovinyl ether moieties. These water-swellable articles and hydrogels may be used in biomedical and pharmaceutical applications and may be suitable for implanted joint repair materials such as an articulating or bearing surface in a hip, knee, spine, finger, ankle, elbow, wrist, or shoulder joint.

    摘要： The present invention provides a personal care product including a wrapper having at least one free edge, an absorbent personal care article and a sensory cue providing indicia as to the location of the free edge. In one embodiment, the wrapper is a wrapper component and has a first panel, a back panel and a second panel, where the first panel is connected to the back panel and the second panel is connected to the back panel at an opposite end from where the first panel is connected to the back panel. The second panel having a free edge positioned adjacent the first panel, wherein the second panel has a first set of sensory attributes which terminate at the free edge of the second panel and the first panel has a second set of sensory attributes which are adjacent the free edge of the second panel. In the present invention, at least one attribute from the first set of sensory attributes or at least one attribute from the second set of attributes is different from attributes from the other set. The different attribute provides a contrast between the second panel and the first panel, and this contrast provides a sensory cue providing clear indicia as to the location of the free edge of the second panel. Also provided is a method of using the personal care product and wrapper. The sensory cue can also be used to direct a user as to how to open the wrapper.

    摘要： An electrical protection system which uses a ground fault interrupter (GFI) to protect a circuit from (A) ground faults and (B) overcurrents and/or overvoltages. For overcurrent protection, a control element may be coupled in series with the line or return input to the GFI, and a bypass element may be coupled in parallel with the control element and the GFI. In case of an overcurrent, the control element causes current to be diverted through the bypass element, thereby creating a current imbalance in the GFI circuitry causing the GFI to open the circuit. For overvoltage protection, a bypass element (e.g. a varistor) may be coupled between, e.g., the line sense input of the GFI and the return sense input of the GFI. In case of an overvoltage, the bypass element conducts current, thereby creating a current imbalance in the GFI circuitry causing the GFI to open the circuit.

The support has low permeability to oxygen and to water vapor. The silver halide color photographic element produces a dye image with improved resistance to fading by light, particularly under conditions of prolonged exposure to low-intensity light.
