摘要: We describe stacked photovoltaic modules, and components thereof, in which at least one booster cell is combined with at least one primary cell in a stacked configuration. The booster cell may be in the form of a polycrystalline film disposed on a transparent substrate, such as a glass substrate, and the film may be patterned to form multiple booster cells. The booster cell includes an n-type layer and a p-type layer; the n-type layer may include polycrystalline zinc sulfide (ZnS), and the p-type layer may include polycrystalline zinc telluride (ZnTe). The n-type layer may have a band gap energy of at least 3.5 eV, and the p-type layer may have a band gap energy of at least 2 or at least 2.2 eV, or in a range from 2.2 to 2.3 eV. An intrinsic layer, also comprising polycrystalline ZnTe, may reside between the n-type and p-type layers.

摘要: A lighting system provides a system optical output, such as white light, as a function of an applied electrical signal. The system output can be characterized by a color temperature or other measure that represents the color or output spectrum of the output. The system is designed so that the color temperature changes as a function of the applied electrical signal. The changes in color temperature are at least in part a result of a phenomenon known as “current crowding”.

摘要: Light emitting systems are disclosed. The light emitting system includes an LED that emits light at a first wave-length. A primary portion of the emitted first wavelength light exits the LED from a top surface of the LED that has a minimum lateral dimension Wmin. The remaining portion of the emitted first wavelength light exits the LED from one or more sides of the LED that has a maximum edge thickness Tmax (122, 124). The ratio Wmin/Tmax is at least 30. The light emitting system further includes a re-emitting semiconductor construction that includes a semiconductor potential well. The re-emitting semiconductor construction receives the first wavelength light that exits the LED from the top surface and converts at least a portion of the received light to light of a second wavelength. The integrated emission intensity of all light at the second wavelength that exit the light emitting system is at least 4 times the integrated emission intensity of all light at the first wavelength that exit the light emitting system.

摘要: Light emitting systems are disclosed. The light emitting system emits an output light that has a first color. The light emitting system includes a first electroluminescent device that emits light at a first wavelength in response to a first signal. The first wavelength is substantially independent of the first signal. The intensity of the emitted first wavelength light is substantially proportional to the first signal. The light emitting system further includes a first luminescent element that includes a second electroluminescent device and a first light converting layer. The second electroluminescent device emits light at a second wavelength in response to a second signal. The first light converting layer includes a semiconductor potential well and converts at least a portion of light at the second wavelength to light at a third wavelength that is longer than the second wavelength. The light emitting system combines light at the first wavelength with light at the third wavelength to form the output light at the first color. When one of the first and second signals changes from about 50% of a maximum rating of the signal to about 100% of the maximum rating, but the ratio of the first signal to the second signal remains substantially unchanged, the first color of the output light remains substantially unchanged.

摘要: Logic circuitry is powered by a partially rectified alternating current (ac) waveform. The waveform is partially rectified in the sense that it does not provide a clean, primarily dc power signal. Instead, it is possible to power logic circuitry with a waveform that includes a substantial ac component. The partially rectified ac waveform may be applied to logic circuitry incorporating thin film transistors based on amorphous or polycrystalline organic semiconductors, inorganic semiconductors or combinations of both.

摘要: Methods and systems use a programmable sign display located in proximity to a traffic light to provide information to motorists upon the motorists directing their attention toward the traffic light. The programmable sign display may receive programming for content to be displayed in various ways, such as through an interface to a telephone network accessible by a cell phone that sends programming information to the sign. The programmable sign may be used to inform motorists of a radio frequency upon which relevant information such as advertising or traffic reports is being broadcast. The programmable sign may be used to provide textual or graphical information, such as an instruction to motorists that relates to avoiding an approaching emergency vehicle. Additionally, management of the sign is provided to coordinate programming and control of the content being displayed. The display of content on the programmable sign display may be coordinated with the states of the traffic light to avoid distracting motorists.

摘要: In one embodiment, the invention is directed to aperture mask deposition techniques using aperture mask patterns formed in one or more elongated webs of flexible film. The techniques involve sequentially depositing material through mask patterns formed in the film to define layers, or portions of layers, of the circuit. A deposition substrate can also be formed from an elongated web, and the deposition substrate web can be fed through a series of deposition stations. Each deposition station may have an elongated web formed with aperture mask patterns. The elongated web of mask patterns feeds in a direction perpendicular to the deposition substrate web. In this manner, the circuit creation process can be performed in-line. Moreover, the process can be automated to reduce human error and increase throughput.
