摘要: A protective garment that reduces the energy transfer from an impact or a fall by consuming some of the mechanical energy transferred to the person wearing the garment and decreasing the amount of injury to that person. The material used in the manufacture of the garment is a polymer, often termed “air bubble packing”. The protective action uses a design that has one or more layers of the air bubble packing or one air chamber fashioned into a robe style garment for the purpose of reducing the amount of injury to the wearer from an impact with an UN-yielding surface. The air chambers are intended to cushion or rupture as pressure is applied, after the collapse of the first air chamber the next air chamber or layer of chambers and the process is repeated.

摘要: Disclosed herein is a helmet structure for reducing kinetic energy transmission. The helmet receives contact of an object that transfers kinetic energy to a first layer having material that displaces in response to applied shearing force. The helmet uses a second layer having material that displaces in response to applied shearing force and uses a third layer having material that does not displace in response to applied shearing force to transfer kinetic energy laterally with respect to the skull. Helmet layers can have material with different mechanical responses, including elastic or rubbery elastic. The outer slip layer may also contain reinforcement particles such as metal, glass and ceramic. In one embodiment, each layer in the structure has a different shear modulus and each layer has a higher shear modulus than the immediately preceding layer. The shear modulus of each layer is modified by adding rigid reinforcement to the layer.

摘要: Disclosed herein is a helmet structure for reducing kinetic energy transmission. The helmet has a first layer configured as an outside layer that serves as first contact with a source of kinetic energy and a second layer having a substance that changes state to transfer kinetic energy laterally with respect to the skull. The substance has a threshold shear yield point wherein upon contact with kinetic energy, if the threshold shear yield point of the second layer is met, the layer will at least partially liquefy to yield a liquid and flow to internal or external chambers. In one embodiment, the helmet structure is reset after contact with kinetic energy. The substance in the helmet changes state such that the substance returns to its original state prior to contact with kinetic energy and the substance returns to its original location within the helmet structure.

摘要: An impact-absorbing compressible member includes a thin-walled enclosure defining an inner chamber containing a volume of fluid such as air. The enclosure includes one or more orifices which as sized and positioned to allow air to vent from the inner chamber in response to an impact on the member and to refill the inner chamber in response to an impact on the member and to refill the inner chamber after the impact is released. The enclosure is formed of a blow-molded thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) material which is economical to make and durable in use. The compressible members can be used as building blocks for impact-absorbing shell structures for a wide variety of application such helmets, protective pads for body parts, sports arena wall padding, vehicular bumpers, dashboards and the like. The compressible member has impact-absorbing advantages over conventional foams currently used in those applications.

摘要: A flexible protective padding material is described and comprises an array of resilient multilayered elements or blocks which have generally planar top and bottom surfaces and each of which have at least two layers which include a first layer bonded to an outer second layer. The total compressibility of each element with the at least two layers, the spacing between the elements and the total thickness of the elements provides the elements with the ability to compress such that at least one side wall of each of adjacent elements move together and touch each other to provide a joined outer surface of elements which dissipates a blow to the protective padding.

摘要: A method for working a gas permeable cushion includes taking a cushion body, stamping a plurality of arc-shaped sections on the cushion body, extending the cushion body to expand the arc-shaped sections, thereby forming a plurality of arc-shaped holes, and bonding two cloth layers onto the cushion body respectively, thereby forming a gas permeable cushion. Thus, the method is used for working a gas permeable cushion without needing a step of removing the wasted material, thereby simplifying the procedure of the method, so that the gas permeable cushion is worked easily and conveniently. In addition, the gas permeable cushion has a plurality of arc-shaped holes, thereby enhancing the ventilating effect of the gas permeable cushion.
