The database of commercial samples is downloaded to a set-top box via a communicate link. The set-top box incorporates a processor for comparing a television signal with the database of known commercial messages to detect the presence of commercial messages. The set-top box may be used to control a recording unit to stop recording for the duration of the commercial message or flag the commercial message for muting or manual skipping during playback. Using this system, the user has the ability to positively detect commercial messages and eliminate the commercials from viewing if desired.

    摘要: An inputted video audio signal is temporarily memorized in a video and audio memorizing section 310. Auxiliary information appended to the video audio signal is temporarily memorized in an auxiliary information memorizing section 320. A memory control device 620 controls write and read operations of the video audio signal with respect to the video and audio memorizing section 310 and write and read operations of the auxiliary information with respect to the auxiliary information memorizing section 320. The video audio signal read from the video and audio memorizing section 310 and the auxiliary information read from the auxiliary information memorizing section 320 are sequentially recorded on a recording medium 500 by a recording device 400. The memory control device 620 stores the video audio signals equivalent to a time length equal to or exceeding an amount of time required from a time point when a recording-start request with respect to the recording medium 500 is made until the recording actually starts with respect to the recording medium 500 in the video and audio memorizing section 310 to thereby delay the video audio signals by an amount of time during which the video audio signals are stored and records the delayed video audio signals on the recording medium. The memory control device 620 further stores the auxiliary information appended to the video audio signals in the auxiliary information memorizing section 320 for a time period substantially equal to the delay of the video audio signals to thereby delay the auxiliary information by an amount of time during which the auxiliary information is stored and records the delayed auxiliary information on the recording medium 500. The video audio signal and its relevant auxiliary information (time code, metadata, CUE audio signal, and the like) can be thereby recorded on the recording medium 500 with no time delay relative to each other.

    摘要: An image system which captures, along with the images, information defining both the position and the orientation of the camera along with the distance to the subject. A video camera is attached to three accelerometers, two gyroscopes, and a rangefinder. Data gathered from these devices and defining the pitch, yaw, and roll of the camera, the camera's acceleration, and the distance to the subject is captured and recorded along with video images. The video images are later stored within a computer's data base along with data defining the position and orientation of the camera and the distance to the subject for each image, this latter data being computed from the captured data. The images may then be presented to the user in a three-dimensional display in which the user can navigate through the images using a joystick device, with the images located in positions corresponding to the positions in space of the objects that were imaged.

A programme is assembled for presentation to the user by selecting at least one programme classification code, and generating an assembled programme in the form of a sequence of programme elements associated with the at least one programme classification code. Programme elements are classified using a set of event classes including a plurality of subsets of the event classes. Classification of each programme element comprises a classification operator malting at least one selection from at least one of the subsets, said selection determining at least one of the subsets from which future selections can be made. The at least one selection generates the classification code associated with the programme element.
