摘要: A hand-operated inflator device for inflating the expander on a balloon-type catheter. It comprises a molded plastic housing for retaining a syringe tube therein for containing an inflation fluid. The housing also includes an internally threaded surface. A syringe plunger having an internal longitudinal bore and a longitudinal slot formed through the wall thereof has a piston mounted on the distal end for insertion into the syringe body. Fitted into the longitudinal slot is an externally threaded member which can be raised and lowered in a radial direction by manipulation of a manuable actuable means positioned in the longitudinal bore of the plunger. When the externally threaded member is raised, its teeth mesh with the teeth on the internally threaded annular surface of the housing, but when lowered, the threaded surfaces are disengaged. When the two are engaged, the piston is advanced in the syringe tube by rotating the plunger. When the two are disengaged, the plunger may be advanced by longitudinal force applied to the end of the plunger.

摘要: A body compatible stent is formed of multiple filaments arranged in at least two sets of oppositely directed helical windings interwoven with one another in a braided configuration. Each of the filaments is a composite including a central core and a case surrounding the core. In the more preferred version, the core is formed of a radiopaque and relatively ductile material, e.g. tantalum or platinum. The outer case is formed of a relatively resilient material, e.g. a cobalt/chromium based alloy. Favorable mechanical characteristics of the stent are determined by the case, while the core enables in vivo imaging of the stent. The composite filaments are formed by a drawn filled tubing process in which the core is inserted into a tubular case of a diameter substantially more than the intended final filament diameter. The composite filament is cold-worked in several steps to reduce its diameter, and annealed between successive cold working steps. After the final cold working step, the composite filament is formed into the desired shape and age hardened. Alternative composite filaments employ an intermediate barrier layer between the case and core, a biocompatible cover layer surrounding the case, and a radiopaque case surrounding a structural core.

摘要: A device for transluminal implantation of a substantially tubular, radially expansible stent. The device includes a central tube surrounded by an outer tube axially displaceable relative to the central tube, with the radial dimensions of the tubes being such as to form an annular space therebetween capable of accommodating the stent in an unexpanded state. The outer tube is axially displaceable relative to the central tube. In one embodiment of the device, the central tube, at a distal end thereof, is provided with a section of reduced diameter at the proximal end of which there is an undercut groove forming a circumferential flange within which a proximal end of the stent rests until release of the stent by rearward displacement of the outer tube. In a modification of the device, the central tube, at its distal end, includes a sleeve slidably positioned therearound for capturing at least a proximal portion of the stent restraining the proximal portion against movement until stent deployment.

摘要: A process is disclosed for manufacturing a prothesis for intraluminal implantation. The prosthesis is formed with a flexible tubular interbraided structure of metal or polymeric monofilaments, and polymeric multifilament yarns, and can be elastically deformed to reduce its diameter through axial elongation. The monofilaments and multifilament yarns are wound on a mandrel arranged in axially spaced apart helices, concentric on a common central axis of the prosthesis. The monofilaments are selectively shaped before their interbraiding with the multifilament yarns, either by an age-hardening or other heat-setting stage while wound on a mandrel, or by a cold-working stage that controllably plastically deforms the strands. The shaped structural strands cooperate to impart to the prosthesis its nominal shape and resilience. The textile strands are interbraided with the structural strands to provide a sheeting that occupies interstices between adjacent structural strands, to reduce permeability and thereby enhance the utility of the prosthesis as a vascular graft. An alternative process employs elastically and plastically deformable structural strands, selectively plastically deformed by cold-working as they are moved toward a station for interbraiding with textile strands to form the prosthesis.
