摘要: Color electrophotographic printers having latent image positions synchronized with start-of-scan signals. A laser source projects a laser beam onto a multifaceted rotating polygon that sweeps that beam in a scan line across a moving photoreceptor. A start-of-scan detector produces start-of-scan signals when the laser beam is in position to write a scan line. A belt sensor produces belt signals when indicia on the photoreceptor passes a reference position. A controller receives the belt signals and the start-of-scan and then adjusts the photoreceptors rotational velocity such that the belt signals are an integral multiple of the start-of-scan signals. To reduce the impact of drive roller eccentricities on belt signal to start-of-scan signal timing, the perimeters of photoreceptor roller elements are sub-multiples of the photoreceptor length.

摘要: An apparatus and method are provided for the use of an optical sensor to determine the position of a printing device relative to a piece of paper or a paper-handling surface. The optical sensor reads marks to detect movement and/or direction of movement or spacing of imprints on the paper. Benefits include swath stitching calibration, color to color registration, producing printing device alignment data and generating information for printing device firing signals. The present invention is applicable to a wide field of printing technologies, including, but not limited to, acoustic ink printing, thermal ink jet printing, piezo ink jet printing, ionographic printing and a variety of other printing technologies involving the need for positioning a printing device relative to a piece of paper.

摘要: An apparatus and method for representing and retrieving multi-dimensional data such as large satellite images. Images are stored in forms that allow them to be rapidly browsed and retrieved by remote client applications in a drill-down fashion. The data can be represented and retrieved using a view element data structure that includes node elements and transition elements between nodes. The data is decomposed (in space or spatial-frequency to construct a tree-based or graph-based data structure) into view elements. A set of view elements is selected, compressed and stored without adversely impacting image view extraction or generation speed. View elements are placed into the node elements of the data structure and the transition elements indicate the processing to generate other view elements in the data structure. In a server-side view construction, the view elements are selectively retrieved from storage, decompressed, and processed to generate the views of the data. In a client-side progressive view construction, the client caches the view elements and processes them in combination with view elements retrieved from the server to generate views of the data. The data reuse at the client reduces data transmission in drill-down or roll-up browsing. Data can be ingested, read and written in units of spatial blocks and decomposed into view elements using the spatial block units. Thus, the ingestion, decomposition, compression, and view retrieval for large images can be done using computer devices that have limited storage and processing capabilities.

摘要: A method and apparatus for simultaneously developing and transferring a liquid toner image. The method includes the steps of moving a photoreceptor including a charge bearing surface having a first electrical potential, applying a uniform layer of charge having a second electrical potential onto the charge bearing surface, and imagewise dissipating charge from selected portions on the charge bearing surface to form a latent image electrostatically, such that the charge-dissipated portions of the charge bearing surface have the first electrical potential of the charge bearing surface. The method also includes the steps of moving an intermediate transfer member biased to a third electrical potential that lies between said first and said second potentials, into a nip forming relationship with the moving imaging member to form a process nip. The method further includes the step of introducing charged liquid toner, having a fourth electrical potential, into the process nip, such that liquid toner sandwiched within the nip simultaneously develops image portions of the latent image onto the intermediate transfer member, and background portions of the latent image onto the charge bearing surface of the photoreceptor.

摘要: An apparatus and method for detecting and reducing image transfer smear is provided. A pattern consisting of a sequence of toner characters or marks separated by spaces is written and developed on a photoreceptive member and then transferred to an intermediate medium. As the pattern is transferred to the intermediate medium, the velocity of the photoreceptor is varied. A photodetector is used to detect the transferred pattern on the intermediate medium and generate a signal indicative thereof. As the detector senses the absence of toner, the signal generated is greater when the space between the toner characters is largest. By monitoring when the signal is greatest and determining the corresponding velocity of the photoreceptor at that time, the best velocity match between the photoreceptor and intermediate transfer medium can be determined and set.
