Abstract:
Systems, methods, and devices of various embodiments enable the provision of providing terrestrial broadcast television services over a cellular broadcast system. In various embodiments, a processor of a network element of the cellular broadcast system may parse a terrestrial broadcast television service for one or more information elements. The processor may configure a service description of the cellular broadcast system to include the one or more information elements of the terrestrial broadcast television service. The processor may send the configured service description over the cellular broadcast system to a receiving device to enable the receiving device to receive the terrestrial broadcast television service over the cellular broadcast system.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are described, which prompt a UE that is receiving at least a physical layer signal from a broadcasting station to look for a new emergency alert. In embodiments, the UE renders content from the broadcasting station based on information received in transmitted physical layer frames. Included within a physical layer frame are bits, such as, ea_wake_up_bits. If the state change of the ea_wake_up_bits indicates that a new emergency message, referencing a new emergency alert, is being transmitted within the physical layer frame, the LTE locates the new emergency message within the physical layer frame and acts on the emergency message if it is applicable to the station to which the UE is tuned. If the emergency message is applicable, the UE acts on the emergency message by using information in the emergency message to locate and render the emergency alert. The emergency message may point to an EAS present on a linear TV service.
Abstract:
Techniques are provided for smooth transition between broadcast/multicast transmission and unicast transmission. A method for managing unicast and multicast services switching in a multi-band/multi-frequency wireless communications system (WCS) capable of both unicast and multicast signaling includes determining whether an aggregate demand for a content provided via dedicated unicast transmissions exceeds a threshold. The method includes switching transmission of the content from the dedicated unicast transmissions on one frequency to a multicast transmission on a second or more frequencies in response to determining that the aggregate demand exceeds the threshold.
Abstract:
A device for receiving streaming data includes a broadcast or multicast middleware unit configured to receive the streaming data via a second service and a proxy unit configured to be disposed between the middleware unit and a client application, the proxy unit further configured to receive an indication of whether the streaming data is to be received via a first service or the second service, when the indication indicates that the streaming data is to be received via the first service: disable the middleware unit; and receive the streaming data via the first service, and when the indication indicates that the streaming data is to be received via the second service: activate the middleware unit to receive the streaming data via the second service, wherein the second service comprises at least one of a broadcast service or a multicast service; and receive the streaming data from the middleware unit.
Abstract:
Techniques for multiplexing and transmitting multiple data streams are described. Transmission of the multiple data streams occurs in “super-frames”. Each super-frame has a predetermined time duration and is further divided into multiple (e.g., four) frames. Each data block for each data stream is outer encoded to generate a corresponding code block. Each code block is partitioned into multiple subblocks, and each data packet in each code block is inner encoded and modulated to generate modulation symbols for the packet. The multiple subblocks for each code block are transmitted in the multiple frames of the same super-frame, one subblock per frame. Each data stream is allocated a number of transmission units in each super-frame and is assigned specific transmission units to achieve efficient packing. A wireless device can select and receive individual data streams.
Abstract:
A communications method for broadcasting an event is provided. This includes generating a plurality of media streams at an event and providing a service to receive the media streams. From the service, an interface can be generated to select a subset of the media streams. Media streams can include audio, video, or other formats that are selected from alternative broadcasting channels provided at the event.
Abstract:
A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided. The apparatus may be an MCE. The apparatus receives a plurality of channel status reports from respective eNBs. In an aspect, each channel status report includes channel information associated with a respective eNB for one of a plurality of channels in a contention based radio frequency band. The apparatus selects a channel for an eNB among the plurality of channels based on the plurality of channel status reports. In an aspect, the selected channel is available to be used for an eMBMS. The apparatus prompts the eNB to provide the eMBMS using the selected channel.
Abstract:
Methods and systems simplify discovery and handoff for multi-frequency broadcast receiver devices, such as mobile TV devices, by providing a virtual home channel that is not dependent on a single frequency network upper layer. The methods and systems may be used in conjunction with a single frequency network upper layer to support areas without upper layer available, or to off load some portion of the common data bandwidth in the single frequency network. For example, the single frequency network may only carry frequency data for the multiple frequency network or only the frequency data for networks with comprehensive market metadata.
Abstract:
A server device for transmitting media data includes a first unit and a second unit. The first unit comprises one or more processing units configured to send descriptive information for media data to the second unit of the server device, wherein the descriptive information indicates a segment of the media data or a byte range of the segment and an earliest time that the segment or the byte range can be delivered or a latest time that the segment or the byte range of the segment can be delivered, and send the media data to the second unit. The second unit thereby delivers the segment or the byte range of the segment according to the descriptive information (e.g., after the earliest time and/or before the latest time).
Abstract:
A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product are provided in connection with facilitating hybrid unicast/broadcast service distribution. In one example, a communications device is equipped to provide a parity portion of titles in a channel of a service to a plurality of UEs at a first time, receive, from a UE at a second time, a request to access a title of the one or more titles, and provide an enablement item, to the requesting UE, which is a portion of the requested title that, when processed with the provided parity portion of the requested title, is sufficient to allow the requesting UE to decode and access to the requested title. In an aspect, the parity portion may be a parity portion of a fountain code encoded title, and the enablement item may be repair symbols of the fountain code encoded title.
