Abstract:
Methods for injecting charge include providing a target comprising a first layer on a second layer, coupling a conductive base to the second layer, and providing a medium which is in contact with at least a portion of the first layer. An electrode is positioned to face and is spaced from the first layer and is at least partially in contact with the medium. An electric field is provided across the first and second layers to inject charge to an interface between the first layer and the second layer.

A method of making an energy conversion device includes forming a plurality of pores within a substrate and forming a junction region within each of the plurality of pores. Each of the junction regions has a depletion region and each of the plurality of pores defines an opening size in the substrate and a spacing from adjacent pores so that the depletion regions of each of the pores is at least substantially in contact with the depletion region of the pores which are adjacent.
Abstract:
A method and system for treating emissions includes charging particles in an exhaust stream, producing one or more radicals, and oxidizing at least a portion of the charged particles with at least a portion of the produced radicals. At least a portion of the charged particles in the exhaust stream are then attracted on at least one attraction surface which is one of oppositely charged from the charged particles and grounded. The attracted particles are oxidized with another portion of the one or more produced radicals to self regenerate the at least one attraction surface. Downstream from where the attracted particles are oxidized, at least a portion of one or more first compounds in the exhaust stream are converted to one or more second compounds downstream from the attracting. Additionally, at least a portion of any remaining charged particles are oxidized into one or more gases.

The attenuated phase shift mask in accordance with one embodiment of the present invention for use in lithography at or below 0.20 .mu.m and for use at wavelengths below 300 nm includes a substrate, a first layer disposed on the substrate, and a second layer disposed on the first layer. The first layer is a group IV, V or VI transitional metal nitride and the second layer is Si.sub.x N.sub.y or the first layer is Si.sub.x N.sub.y and the second layer is a group IV, V or VI transitional metal nitride. The mask may include a third layer disposed on the second layer and a fourth layer disposed on the second layer. The third layer is a group IV, V or VI transitional metal nitride if the second layer is Si.sub.x N.sub.y and is Si.sub.x N.sub.y if the second layer is a group IV, V or VI transitional metal. The fourth layer is a group IV, V or VI transitional metal nitride if the third layer is Si.sub.x N.sub.y and is Si.sub.x N.sub.y if the third layer is a group IV, V or VI transitional metal. The attenuated phase shift mask has a thickness between about 500 angstroms and 2000 angstroms, with the ratio of the thickness of the Si.sub.x N.sub.y to the group IV, V or VI transitional metal nitride being about 85 to 15.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a microaccelerometer employing a single free-mass and capable of measuring acceleration along three coordinate axes, and a process for fabricating through micromachining and microelectronic techniques a microaccelerometer employing a free-mass. A microaccelerometer preform is constructed by chemically coating and etching a silicon wafer to form a support member and a free-mass surrounded by the member. The free-mass is movable with respect to, but constrained by the silicon support member. Acceleration measurements are obtained by circuits which sense changes in the position of the free-mass with respect to an equilibrium position, induced by a change in the rate of acceleration of the accelerometer, and the electromagnetic force required to restore the free-mass to its equilibrium position.
Abstract:
A massive inventory of labeled images, for example of every real estate parcel in a city, is produced on different frames of a video disc, from which the images may be randomly accessed for use in tax assessment, real estate sales and the like. Digital information is accessed from memory (e.g., magnetic disc) associated with a computer and monitored to define a route for a field rig, equipped with a video camera, which scans the images and provides TV signals in the order in which the digital information corresponding thereto is accessed. Each video image is labeled with text from the digital information corresponding to the image to produce TV signals with labeling information therein. Pluralities of frames of the TV signals are recorded on a video recorder. A single frame is selected from each plurality and recorded on a different frame of the video disc record.
Abstract:
