Abstract:
This invention reduces the air pollution associated with spraying of paints, coatings, solvents or pesticides against a surface. Spraying invariable causes bounceback of sprayed solids as well as overspray consisting of bounceback and an aerosol of solids, solvent, and air and is an important source of air pollution. This invention is a resprayer consisting of a jet venturi induction pump located near the front of a spray gun which captures the overspray and a respray nozzle which redeposits the captured material on the work surface.
Abstract:
A sprayer of an elongated shape receives a desired liquid from an outside urce and spray-applies the liquid onto a fiber in response to motivating force provided by pressurized gas. The unsprayed, virgin fiber enters the sprayer through an inlet hole, is sprayed on with the liquid as it travels the width of the sprayer and exits the sprayer as a sprayed fiber through an exit hole. The pressure of the motivating gas can be varied to provide the optimum jettisoning force for a selected liquid, taking into consideration the viscosity, volatility and other pertinent characteristics of the liquid.
Abstract:
System for increasing rainout from a liquid jet of an aerosolable corrosive and toxic substance, e.g. hydrogen fluoride, hydrofluoric acid, ammonia or chlorine, exiting from a pressurized source such as a vessel, conduit, pump. The system includes an impact plate spaced from the pressurized source for deflecting the liquid jet to dissipate forward velocity and energy of the liquid jet. The impact plate is positioned a distance from the pressurized source to impact the liquid jet before the liquid is capable of expanding to form a substantial aerosol of vaporized substance. A mesh pad abuts the impact plate and faces the pressurized source for initially reducing the velocity and energy of the liquid jet, and for preventing back and radial splash of the liquid jet deflecting off the impact plate to coalesce droplets of the substance and thereby produce a collectable run-off.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus are provided for electrostatically applying a coating, such as solder mask, to a substrate such as a circuit board. A grounded conveyor system includes electrically conductive means for suspending the substrate from the conveyor and grounding the substrate. An atomizing spray nozzle provides an atomized, electrically charged spray of the coating material in the direction of the grounded substrate. A focusing element is positioned to confine the spray to a desired pattern, and a receiving backplate, which carries a charge opposite that of the spray, is positioned behind the substrate to attract the charged coating particles that do not impinge on the substrate.
Abstract:

Abstract:
A nozzle device for supplying washing liquid to a reaction vessel holding a carrier therein and for discharging a liquid from the reaction vessel. The nozzle device comprises a cylindrical outer tube having a lower end in a shape of a cone without a vertex and having an axial through-hole in opposition to the reaction vessel and an upper end communicating with a suction device for discharging the liquid. The nozzle device further comprising a cylindrical inner tube inserted loosely in the outer tube, reaching the through-hole of the outer tube, fitting tightly, practically without a gap therebetween, to the axial through-hole at the lower end, and communicating with a washing liquid-supplying device at the upper end thereof to form by itself a supply path for the washing liquid. The nozzle device also includes a liquid discharge path formed between the outside wall of the inner tube and the inside wall of the outer tube. The cone-shaped portion of the outer tube having one or more slits for introducing the liquid from the reaction vessel to the liquid-discharge paths and at least a part of the cone-shaped portion of the outer tube being made of or coated with a fluoro resin.
Abstract:
An ultrasonic piezoelectric aerosol submicron mist generator is disclosed having a high-frequency, piezoelectric crystal (18) which is vibratible at a selected frequency to atomize a liquid (24) that has been evenly distributed over the crystal (18) via an annular flow control washer (28). The atomized liquid (24) forms a mist (20) thereafter received into a mixing chamber (30) wherein the mist (20) is entrained into a low pressure gas (36). The low pressure gas (36) transports the entrained mist (20) about a separator plate (32), whereby the mist (20) must change flow direction in order to exit a nozzle outlet (42) thus forcing droplets (40) larger than the desired size to separate from the low pressure gas (36) before reaching the nozzle outlet (42).
Abstract:
An atomizer for forming a thin film comprising an atomizing box, a guide tube having an open end of small diameter and an other open end of large diameter, a nozzle having an ejection outlet disposed in the atomizing box, an atomizing solution reservoir defined in the atomizing box adjacent to the open end of large diameter of the guide tube, and a fluid return passage defined around the circumference of the guide tube for returning the atomized solution from the atomizing solution reservoir to the one open end thereof. The atomizing box can contain a plurality of guide tubes each provided with a nozzle. The guide tube can also have a plurality of nozzles positioned therein.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for the recovery of spraying substance when spraying elongated rolled stock. Difficulties are met when trying to recover water-dilutable or water-soluble coating agents since after evaporation of the solvent, i.e. the water, the film which is left can no longer be dissolved by water and thus it is no longer possible to recover this fraction of the spraying substance. According to the invention, therefore, it is proposed to carry out the spraying in a water-saturated atmosphere so that the excess spraying substance can easily be recovered. The apparatus is appropriately constructed to correspond to these circumstances.
Abstract:
A spread out foraminous tow of tensioned filamentary filter material is transported through a housing between an upper and a lower rotating cylindrical brush. The upper brush propels atomized liquid plasticizer against the upper side of the tow whereby a certain amount of plasticizer penetrates through the tow and is gathered in the housing within the range of bristles on the lower brush which propels the gathered plasticizer against the underside of the tow. The rate of feed of plasticizer to the upper brush is varied in response to changes in the speed of the tow, and the brushes are arrested when the transporting rolls for the tow are brought to a standstill. The lower portion of the housing constitutes a trough which surrounds the lower half of the lower brush and from which the gathered plasticizer is evacuated when the brushes are idle.
