Abstract:
A method for preparing a sorbent composition includes the steps of: (i) applying, from a solution or a slurry, a layer of a copper compound on the surface of a support material, and (ii) drying the coated support material, wherein the thickness of the copper compound layer on the dried support is in the range 1-200 μm. The precursor may be converted to a sorbent suitable for removing heavy metals from liquids or gases by applying one or more sulphur compounds to sulphide the copper compound and form CuS.
Abstract:
The invention relates to different designs of a microelectronic device comprising an array of heating elements (HE) with local driving units (CU2) and optionally with an array of sensor elements (SE) adjacent to a sample chamber (SC). By applying appropriate currents to the heating elements (HE), the sample chamber can be heated according to a desired temperature profile. The local driving units comprise means for compensating variations of their individual characteristics.
Abstract:
The invention relates to different designs of a microelectronic device comprising heating electrodes (HE) and field electrodes (FE) that have effect in the same sub-region of a sample chamber. By applying appropriate voltages to the field electrodes (FE), an electrical field (E) can be generated in the sample chamber. By applying appropriate currents to the heating electrodes (HE), the sample chamber can be heated according to a desired temperature profile. The heating electrodes (HE) may optionally be operated as field electrodes such that they generate an electrical field in the sample chamber, too.
Abstract:
A data processing system features a processor, random access memory (RAM), flash memory, a disk drive, an operating system (OS), and platform software. The platform software is capable of intercepting an attempt by the OS to read a storage location of the disk drive during a process of transitioning the data processing system from an inactive mode to an active mode. In response to intercepting the attempt by the OS to read the disk drive, the platform software may automatically determine whether the storage location for the read corresponds to a disk area reserved for power state transition data. If the storage location corresponds to the area reserved for power state transition data, the platform software may automatically read data from the flash memory instead of the disk drive, and pass that data to the OS. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
Abstract:
Physical barriers (210) are present between neighbouring pixels (200) on a circuit substrate (100) of an active-matrix electroluminescent display device, particularly with LEDs (25) of organic semi conductor materials. The invention forms these barriers (210) with metal or other electrically-conductive material (240), that is insulated (40) from the LEDs but connected to the circuitry within the substrate (100). This conductive barrier material (240) backs-up or replaces at least a part of the drive supply line (140,240) to which the LEDs are connected by a drive element T1. This transfers the problem of line resistance and associated voltage drop from within the circuit substrate (100), where it is severely constrained, to the much freer environment of the pixel barriers (210) on the substrate (100) where the conductive barrier material (240) can provide much lower resistance. Very large displays can be made with low voltage drops along this composite drive supply line (140,240). Furthermore, the structure can be optimised to form a smoothing capacitor (Cs) between this drive supply line (140,240) with its conductive barrier material (240) and the further supply line (230) of the LED upper electrodes (23) extending on an insulating coating (40) over the top of the conductive barrier material (240).
Abstract:
A method and system for content pre-fetching during a processing system pre-boot runtime. First, it is determined when a processor of a processing system is in one of a busy wait state and an idle state during a pre-boot runtime of the processing system. Then, content is pre-fetched from a data storage unit of the processing system. The content is pre-fetched based upon a pre-fetch profile. The content is loaded into system memory of the processing system.
Abstract:
Provided are a method, system and program for effecting a processor operating mode change to execute device code. A processor receives a call while the processor is operating in a first mode, wherein the call is made to effect execution of device code to control a device. The processor determines whether the call is intended to change a processor operating mode from the first mode to a second mode. The state of the processor is selectively changed to a second mode in which the processor executes second mode instructions loaded in a protected section of memory inaccessible to an operating system in response to determining that the call is intended to change the processor operating mode. The second mode instructions execute the device code to control the device.
Abstract:
An apparatus for casting metal strip in which molten metal is applied to a casting roll the surface of which is cleaned by a cleaning brush device comprising a main brush extending across the roll surface by sweeper brush actuator 28A and a sweeper brush extending across the roll and capable of tangentially engaging the peripheral longitudinal roll surface in advance of the main brushing device. Both brushes are mounted on mounting frames moveable to bring the main and sweeper brushes into contact with the casting roll. The sweeper brush is independently moveable on the frame by operation of an sweeper brush actuator to move the sweeper brush into engagement with the surface of the casting roll near the start and end of the casting run and the main brush actuator to move the main brush into engagement with the peripheral longitudinal surface of the casting roll during normal casting operation.
Abstract:
A mechanism is provided for booting a computer system that is capable of implementing different instruction set architectures, through a network. An embodiment of the invention includes a network controller implemented for a first ISA and a processor capable of implementing programs written in a second ISA as well as programs written in the first ISA. Following preliminary boot operations provided through non-volatile system memory, a network boot program provided by the network controller is implemented. The boot program requests the non-volatile system memory for an indication of the operating system to be loaded and generates a boot request for the indicated operating system. When the indicated operating system is written in the second ISA, the boot program loads the OS to a specified location in system memory and sends the processor into a mode suitable for executing the second ISA.
Abstract:
Physical barriers (210) are present between neighbouring pixels (200) on a circuit substrate (100) of an active-matrix electroluminescent display device, particularly with LEDs (25) of organic semiconductor materials. The invention forms these barriers (210) with metal or other electrically-conductive material (240) that serves as an interconnection between a first circuit element (21, 4, 5, 6, 140, 150, 160, T1, T2, Tm, Tg, Ch) of the circuit substrate and a second circuit element (400, 400s, 23), for example, a sensor (400s) of a sensor array supported over the pixel array. The conductive barrier material (240) is insulated (40) at the sides of the barriers adjacent to the LEDs and has an un-insulated top connection area (240t) at which the second circuit element is connected to the conductive barrier material (240).
