    Abstract: Apparatus 2 for dosing a liquid colour formulation into polymer includes a weighing platform 4 which is supported on a pair of load cells 6 which are, in turn, supported on a base 8. A reservoir 12 contains liquid colour formulation 14. A pump 16 is arranged to pump liquid formulation, via a tube 20, to an extruder or injection moulding machine. Above inlet 24 is a delivery pack 26 which includes a bag-in-a-box arrangement 28. The delivery pack 26 includes a transfer pump 36 associated with an outlet of the receptacle 32. A transfer pump motor 38 is arranged to be engaged with the transfer pump 36 and operated so that liquid formulation can be pumped from the receptacle 32 into reservoir 12 across an air gap 13 defined between the transfer pump 36 and the inlet 24 of reservoir 12. There is no pipe, tube or other conduit through which liquid formulation passes on travel between delivery pack 26 and reservoir 12.

    Abstract: A polymeric melt composition includes a polymeric material and a nucleating agent additive composition. The nucleating agent additive composition includes (a) at least one carbonate or bicarbonate, (b) at least one organic acid or its salt, and (c) at least one desiccant. The polymeric material is unfoamed by the additive composition. The additive composition can induce polymer nucleation, such that the rate of production for polymeric articles made by melt forming processes such as injection molding can be improved, even when the carbonate or bicarbonate is present at only very low levels in the polymeric melt composition from which the polymeric articles are shaped.

    Abstract: A method of determining a recipe for providing a desired colour and a desired effect, for example, a pearlescent effect, comprises: i. Providing a group of different effect materials, which suitably includes no more than 20 members, for inclusion in the recipe; ii. Selecting an effect from said group which is closest to the desired effect; iii. Directing a match prediction system to use the selected effect material to determine a recipe, wherein the match prediction system determines a recipe based on the selected effect material and colour information relating to the colour to be matched. A method of preparing a liquid colour/effect formulation for addition to plastics is also described.

    Abstract: Apparatus (2) includes a platform (14) on which is supported, via spaced apart posts (16), a stationary rigid support disc (17). Between the platform (14) and disc (17), plaque holder (18) is rotatably mounted. The plaque holder is arranged to hold a plaque (19) for assessment. The plaque is made by injection molding from a composition comprising a polymeric material and a specific amount of reheat additive(s) and any other additives(s) to be assessed. The plaque holder is arranged to move the plaque relative to the disc (17). In an input position, the plaque holder (18) is arranged directly underneath opening (20). In a measurement position, which is 90° from the input position, there are provided first and second temperature measuring assemblies (24, 26) arranged to measure the temperature of the top and bottom surfaces of a plaque held in the plaque holder. The plaque holder can be rotated through 90° from the measurement position to a heating position, wherein the plaque is positioned directly below a heat lamp. In use, the plaque holder is rotated to the heating position, wherein the plaque is heated by the lamp for a predetermined time. Then the plaque holder is rapidly rotated back to the measurement position, wherein the temperatures of the upper and lower surfaces of the plaque are rapidly measured. These steps are repeated and data recorded to allow reheat and/or other characteristics of the plaque to be assessed over time.
