    摘要: A propulsion system for a watercraft includes an engine. An air intake device delivers air to a combustion chamber. A throttle valve regulates an amount of the air. A control device sets the throttle valve to a desired position. A remote controller provides the control device with the desired position. The engine can include an auxiliary intake device that delivers supplemental air to the combustion chamber. A control valve normally shuts the supplemental air from the combustion chamber. The control device determines whether an abnormal condition occurs in setting the throttle valve to the desired position. The control device determines whether the amount of the air is insufficient. The control device controls the control valve to allow the supplemental air to move to the combustion chamber when the control device determines that the abnormal condition occurs and the amount of the air is insufficient.

A control valve for a variable valve timing mechanism is positioned within a common hydraulic passage having a first opening and a second opening. The control valve is positioned generally along an axis that is perpendicular to the camshaft.

First and second camshafts extend within the first bank, and third and fourth camshafts extend within the second bank. The first, second, third and fourth camshafts are generally disposed parallel to each other and parallel to the crankshaft. The first and third camshafts are placed next to each other. A first flexible transmitter surrounds the crankshaft and the first and third camshafts. The crankshaft drives the first and third camshafts through the first transmitter. A second flexible transmitter surrounds the second and fourth camshafts and either the first or third camshaft. The first or third camshaft drives the second and fourth camshafts through the second transmitter. The engine also includes VVT mechanisms to change an angular position of the camshafts relative to the crankshaft. The VVT mechanisms are disposed at the camshafts. Each VVT mechanism at least in part overlaps with either the first or second transmitter in a direction of an axis of the associated camshaft.

    摘要: A marine drive has an engine, a propeller and a transmission to switch the propeller between a propulsion position and a non-propulsion position. The engine has a combustion chamber. An air induction system communicates with the combustion chamber through an intake port. An exhaust system communicates with the combustion chamber through an exhaust port. Intake and exhaust valves move between an open position and a closed position of the intake port and the exhaust port, respectively. Intake and exhaust camshafts actuate the intake and exhaust valves, respectively. A VVT mechanism changes an actuating timing of the intake camshaft at which the camshaft actuates the intake valve. An ECU controls the intake camshaft to set the actuating timing at a generally optimum timing. A transmission position change operation sensor senses that the transmission is under operation and sends a signal to the ECU. The ECU controls the VVT mechanism based upon the signal to move the actuating timing away from the optimum timing. Otherwise, a transmission position sensor senses that the transmission is in a neutral position and sends a signal to the ECU. The ECU controls the VVT mechanism based upon the signal to bring the actuating timing to a generally fully retarded timing.

    摘要: A throttle valve control mechanism for an internal combustion engine. In one feature of the invention, the engine has multiple cylinders extending generally horizontally, spaced vertically relative to each other. The engine also has an air induction system extending generally horizontally. The air induction system includes a plurality of air intake ducts each having a throttle valve. Each throttle valve has a throttle valve shaft extending generally vertically and linked together. A throttle valve control mechanism is provided. The throttle valve control mechanism has a throttle lever for rotating the throttle valve and the throttle lever is movable in a plane existing generally horizontally. Almost of the other part of the throttle valve control mechanism is movable in a plane existing generally vertically. If the engine is mounted on an outboard motor and encircled by a protective cowling, the other part of the throttle valve control mechanism is placed between the engine and the protective cowling. In another feature of the invention, the throttle valve control mechanism has a non-linear device so that the throttle valve opening changes non-linearly as compared with its input operation.

    摘要: An outboard motor has a quieter operating recoil starter arrangement. The recoil starter has a starter drum with a dog clutch arrangement having two dog cam members. The dog cam members rotate between an initial position and an extended position under the influence of a clutch drive member. Specifically, the dog cams each have a portion which engages a starter pulley when a starter rope is pulled. The dog cams are configured to extend minimally into a corresponding slot of the starter pulley when in their extended position. Such configuration results in less chatter when the starter pulley speed exceeds the starter drum speed upon ignition of the engine.

Since the sizes of the cross-sectional shapes of the cavity thereby become different in a region further on the piston central axis (Lp) side than intersection points (e1, d1) in the vicinity of a fuel injection point (Oinj), in order to compensate for this, by correcting in a cross section that is away from the piston pin direction the cross-sectional shape of the broken line into the cross-sectional shape of a solid line so that it enlarges, the size of the cross-sectional shape at each position of the circumferential direction of the cavity is thereby made more uniform, thus making the conditions in which fuel and air are mixed uniform and improving the engine output and reducing harmful exhaust materials.

    摘要: In an internal combustion engine having a pair of balancer shafts (53, 54), an engine torque is transmitted from a crank gear (28) to an oil pump gear (74) on a drive shaft (73) of an oil pump (71) via a first idler gear (84) and the first balancer shaft gear (64). The engine torque is also transmitted to a fuel pump (72) from the crank gear to a fuel pump gear (78) via the first idler gear and a second idler gear (86), and to the second balancer shaft gear (67) via the first idler gear and second idler gear. Alternatively, the engine torque may be transmitted to the fuel pump from the crank gear to the fuel pump gear via the first idler gear, second balancer shaft gear and second idler gear. As the oil pump gear is actuated by the crank gear via the first idler gear, the oil pump gear is not subjected to the loading caused by the balancer shaft, and hence can be made of a compact and light-weight gear. Furthermore, this allows the various gears to be arranged in an efficient (in terms of the overall weight for the given mechanical strength requirements) and compact manner.
