    摘要: An apparatus for driving a touchpad of a portable terminal including a second control unit controlling the touchpad in an active mode is provided. The apparatus includes a sensor unit for generating interrupt signals when pressure on the touchpad is sensed, a first control unit for outputting activating signals to activate the second control unit when the interrupt signals are input and a switching unit for transmitting the interrupt signals generated from the sensor unit to the first control unit when the second control unit is in an inactive mode. Accordingly, even though the multimedia processor embedded in the portable terminal is in an inactive mode, the multimedia processor is activated when a user presses the touchpad, thereby making it possible to process signals input by touching the touchpad, particularly, to keep the user interface. Furthermore, the multimedia processor embedded in the portable terminal can reduce the consumption of battery power required to maintain the user interface, as compared with multimedia processors maintaining operating in a conventional polling method.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for controlling an operation of a portable terminal having a multimedia function are provided. The apparatus includes a multimedia processor for performing the multimedia function when a controller is in a sleep mode wherein the controller is converted to an active mode when a specified key signal is input into the controller in the sleep mode and outputs an inactive signal to inactivate the multimedia processor. According to the present invention, the portable terminal having the controller controlling the mobile communication function and the multimedia processor controlling the multimedia function, can independently perform the mobile communication function and the multimedia function according to the specified key input. Furthermore, according to the present invention, the controller which controls the mobile communication function need not control the multimedia processor which controls the multimedia function. Hence, it is possible to reduce power consumption and software errors occurring when the controller controls the multimedia processor.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for controlling battery discharging in a portable terminal having a detachable external battery are provided. The method includes determining if the external battery has been connected with the portable terminal when the portable terminal is booted, receiving power from the external battery when the external battery is connected with the portable terminal and receiving power from an embedded battery of the portable terminal when the external battery has been completely discharged. Furthermore, in charging the batteries, the embedded battery of the portable terminal is first charged when battery charging current is input in a state that the external battery has been connected with the portable terminal, and the external battery is charged when the embedded battery has been completely charged. Power from the external battery is first used when a portable terminal assembled with the external battery is used, and an embedded battery is first charged in charging batteries. Therefore, the embedded battery capacity of the portable terminal can be maintained as much as possible. Furthermore, although the external battery is separated from the portable terminal during battery charging/discharging, the embedded battery capacity can be maintained as much as possible. As a result, even if only the embedded battery is used, a using time of the embedded battery can be increased. Therefore, it is possible to improve the user's convenience.

    摘要: An apparatus for driving a touchpad of a portable terminal including a second control unit controlling the touchpad in an active mode is provided. The apparatus includes a sensor unit for generating interrupt signals when pressure on the touchpad is sensed, a first control unit for outputting activating signals to activate the second control unit when the interrupt signals are input and a switching unit for transmitting the interrupt signals generated from the sensor unit to the first control unit when the second control unit is in an inactive mode. Accordingly, even though the multimedia processor embedded in the portable terminal is in an inactive mode, the multimedia processor is activated when a user presses the touchpad, thereby making it possible to process signals input by touching the touchpad, particularly, to keep the user interface. Furthermore, the multimedia processor embedded in the portable terminal can reduce the consumption of battery power required to maintain the user interface, as compared with multimedia processors maintaining operating in a conventional polling method.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for controlling an operation of a portable terminal having a multimedia function are provided.
