    摘要: A lubricating system is disclosed for an engine arranged such that the crankshaft is vertically oriented. The crankshaft rotates within a crankcase chamber defined by the cylinder block and a crankcase cover connected thereto. First crankshaft support members which support half-bearings extend from the cylinder block. Mating half-bearings are supported by second crankshaft support members positioned opposite the first crankshaft support members. A baffle plate is positioned in the crankcase chamber between the crankcase cover and the crankshaft. At least one oil flow passage is defined through the crankcase chamber from a top end to a bottom end of the chamber. In one embodiment, oil is supplied through a main passage in the crankcase cover and a branch passage through each second crankshaft support members for lubricating the bearings.

    摘要: A liquid cooling arrangement for an internal combustion engine having a cylinder block with a cylinder head connected thereto and defining at least one combustion chamber, a common exhaust passage extending through the cylinder block and an exhaust passage leading from each combustion chamber to the common exhaust passage, is disclosed. The liquid cooling arrangement includes a pump for pumping cooling liquid from a cooling liquid source first through at least one passage extending through the cylinder head generally adjacent the exhaust passages leading from the combustion chambers, and through at least one passage extending through the cylinder block generally adjacent the common exhaust passage. Once the cooling liquid has passed through these passages, the cooling liquid is delivered to one or more passages extending through the cylinder head or block generally adjacent the combustion chamber(s). The cooling liquid then selectively passes a thermostat into a cooling liquid return line through which the cooling liquid is drained from the engine.

    摘要: A crankshaft bearing support arrangement is disclosed for an engine arranged such that the crankshaft is vertically oriented. The crankshaft rotates within a crankcase chamber defined by the cylinder block and a crankcase cover connected thereto. First web members which support half-bearings extend from the cylinder block. Mating half-bearings are supported by second web members position opposite the first web members. An oil flow passage is defined through the crankcase chamber generally opposite the cylinder block from a top end to a bottom end of the chamber. In one arrangement, the oil flow passage comprises individual passages through the second web members. In another arrangement, the oil flow passage comprises a space between an end of the second web members opposite the cylinder block and the crankcase cover. The crankshaft support arrangement allows lubricating oil introduced into the crankcase chamber to flow downwardly from the top end to the bottom end of the chamber for return to an oil reservoir for recirculation through the engine.

    摘要: An internal combustion engine of the type utilized to power an outboard motor and having a cooling arrangement for reducing the transmission of heat from exhaust gases flowing through an exhaust passage from the engine to the combustion chambers of the engine, is disclosed. In general, the cooling arrangement comprises an air-filled space formed in the cylinder block between the combustion chambers and the exhaust passage. In a first arrangement, when the engine is of the in-line variety and the combustion chambers are vertically arranged, air spaces are formed between a common vertically extending exhaust passage leading to an exhaust pipe, and each combustion chamber. In a second arrangement, when the engine is of the "V" type, an air space is formed in the portion of the cylinder block defining the inside wall of each cylinder bank, between each combustion chamber and a common exhaust passage extending through the valley between the cylinder banks.

    摘要: A liquid cooling system for an internal combustion engine of an outboard motor is disclosed. The cooling system includes a pump for delivering coolant to one or more coolant passages in the engine. At least one thermostat is provided for controlling the flow of coolant through the engine to one or more return lines which extend to a coolant pool extending about a lubricating oil reservoir. A pressure relief valve is provided between the pump and thermostat for relieving coolant from the engine upon excessive coolant pressure. The relieved coolant is preferably either delivered to a drain, a second coolant pool extending about a muffler, or the first coolant pool. Preferably, a diverter is provided for controlling the flow of the relieved coolant. When a temperature of the lubricating oil is high, the relieved coolant is preferably diverted to the first coolant pool for additionally cooling the oil in the reservoir, and when the temperature of the oil is low, the relieved coolant is preferably either diverted to the second coolant pool or the coolant drain for passage out of the motor.

    摘要: In accordance with the present invention there is provided an outboard motor for use in powering a watercraft of the type having an operator station positioned along a starboard side of the watercraft. The motor has a water propulsion device powered by an engine having an exhaust system generally positioned along a right side thereof. A cooling system is provided for cooling the engine and the exhaust system. Preferably, the motor includes a cooling water tell-tale acting as a visual identifier to the operator of the craft that the cooling system for the engine is operating. The tell-tale is created by diverting coolant from a portion of the cooling system for cooling the exhaust system to a pilot port in the side of the cowling corresponding to the starboard side of the watercraft. In addition, the motor preferably includes a throttle control and shift control which extend along the right side of the engine through the cowling to the operator station in the watercraft. The throttle control is connected via a linkage extending to the opposite side of the engine to an intake throttle, while the shift control is connected via a linkage to a transmission control.

    摘要: A wafer slicing method includes winding a wire around rollers and pressing the wire against an ingot while supplying slurry to the rollers. A previously conducted experiment provides a supply temperature profile of the slurry during the slicing process and the relationship to the axial displacement of the rollers. This relationship is used to implement slurry delivery during the slicing process. The resultant wafers are bowed in a uniform direction. This slicing method provides excellent reproducibility in addition to producing wafers that are bowed in a uniform direction.
