Abstract:
A continuously variable valve duration (CVVD) system includes an electronic control unit (ECU) configured to output a command for adjusting an actuator and a controller configured to determine a operation range of a control shaft of the actuator and adjust the control shaft in the determined operation range based on the command of the ECU. The controller positions the control shaft at a predetermined target phase and determines a control state of each target phase based on a target phase value transmitted from the actuator when the control shaft is positioned at the target phase.
Abstract:
An air-fuel ratio control controls an air-fuel ratio (air-fuel ratio of an engine) of a mixture supplied to the engine, based on an output value of the downstream-side air-fuel ratio sensor disposed downstream of a catalyst. That is, the air-fuel ratio control apparatus sets the air-fuel ratio of the engine at a rich air-fuel ratio when the output Voxs is smaller than a reference value VREF (when a rich request is occurring). The air-fuel ratio control apparatus sets the air-fuel ratio of the engine at a lean air-fuel ratio when the output Voxs is larger than a reference value VREF (when a lean request is occurring). The air-fuel ratio control apparatus makes the target value VREF gradually come closer to a reference value VF (stoichiometric air-fuel ratio corresponding value) from a certain value, when the output value Voxs deviates greatly from the reference value Vf (points P1-P3).
Abstract:
In an apparatus for detecting tip-over of a rammer equipped with a crankcase accommodating an output shaft rotatably connected to an engine, a movable unit accommodating a converter mechanism for converting rotation of the output shaft to vertical motion of a movable member, a tamping shoe connected to the movable unit, and a handle operable by an user, and adapted to thrust upward in the gravitational direction by the vertical motion of the movable member and go into a free fall to compact a ground surface, it is determined whether a detected engine speed becomes equal to or smaller than a threshold value set lower than an engine idling speed when the engine has been operated at a rammer working speed set greater than the engine idling speed, and if it does, it is discriminated that the rammer has tipped over.
Abstract:
In a method for determining a filling difference between at least two cylinders of an internal combustion engine, e.g., an Otto-cycle engine, a power output parameter contribution made available by the respective cylinder to a total power output parameter of the internal combustion engine is ascertained for each of the at least two cylinders for different fuel quantities, and an air inhomogeneity between the at least two cylinders is ascertained on the basis of the power output parameter contributions, ascertained for the different fuel quantities, of the at least two cylinders.
Abstract:
A system for fuel injection control in internal combustion engine is provided. Fuel is injected during exhaust stroke from a fuel injector for port injection upstream of an intake valve. In-cylinder temperature as the engine cylinder undergoes compression is predicted. Fuel is injected during intake stroke from the fuel injector to supply fuel to the inside of the cylinder upon determining that the predicated in-cylinder temperature is greater than a temperature beyond which pre-ignition is expected to happen.
Abstract:
A method/control unit for detecting a voltage offset in a range of a voltage-lambda characteristic curve of a two-point lambda sensor in an engine exhaust gas duct as to a reference voltage-lambda characteristic curve of the two-point lambda sensor, which is part of a controlled system for adjusting an air-fuel mixture supplied to the engine, a characteristic curve deviation of voltage-lambda characteristic curve to the reference characteristic curve being corrected at λ=1, so that a change in the air-fuel mixture composition toward λ=1 occurs, starting from a value pair to be checked on the reference characteristic curve, with a lambda and a voltage to be checked, the actual value of lambda being inferred from the change in the mixture composition until reaching λ=1. The method/control unit permit determining and compensating a voltage offset of a two-point lambda sensor conditional upon aging or manufacturing tolerances.
Abstract:
Methods and devices are described for performing engine diagnostics during skip fire operation of an engine while a vehicle is being driven. Knowledge of the firing sequence is used to determine appropriate times to conduct selected diagnostics and/or to help better interpret sensor inputs or diagnostic results. In one aspect, selected diagnostics are executed when a single cylinder is fired a plurality of times in isolation relative to a sensor used in the diagnosis. In another aspect, selected diagnostics are conducted while the engine is operated using a firing sequence that insures that no cylinders in a first cylinder bank are fired for a plurality of engine cycles while cylinders in a second bank are at least sometimes fired. The described tests can be conducted opportunistically, when conditions are appropriate, or specific firing sequences can be commanded to achieve the desired isolation or skipping of one or more selected cylinders.
Abstract:
A vehicle control apparatus performs control of enabling idle operation of an internal combustion engine that generates a motive power applied to a driving wheel of a vehicle if a vehicle speed of the vehicle is lower than a predetermined vehicle speed that is set in advance, and disabling idle operation of the internal combustion engine if the vehicle speed of the vehicle is equal to or higher than the predetermined vehicle speed, when the vehicle is in a state other than an acceleration running state. Accordingly, the vehicle control apparatus achieves an effect of making it possible to suppress the consumption of fuel.
