The abrasive elements (506) are made of a metallic sleeve on which an abrasive layer is deposited by means of electrolytic deposition, by means of sintering or by means of cladding for example laser cladding. Characteristic about this sawing rope (270) in view of the prior known sawing ropes is that each sleeve shows a connection or closure. Such a connection makes it possible to attach abrasive elements (506) on the rope without having to thread them on the rope (270) as is needed when making prior-art sawing ropes. The inventive sawing rope (270) can therefore be made in long lengths in a very efficient way.

A light weight electrochromic dimmable mirror stack (300, 600) is presented that is composed only of solid-state layers (315, 615) with a total thickness of less than 50 micron and a reflector (310, 610). Normally such a kind of layered device suffers from iridescence due to interference of light waves reflecting at the interfaces between the layers of the electrochromic device. The solution provided by the invention is to pattern at least one of the layers (315, 615) in the device such that the interference effects are smeared out and a more neutral color is obtained. Various possible configurations are described and also the method to produce such a device.

The present invention comprises a multilayer inorganic anti-reflective coating with predetermined optical properties, for application on a flexible substrate. The coating comprises a stack consisting of five material layers, whereby the third layer is a dummy layer consisting of an electrically conductive material, preferably indium-tinoxyde, which provides the coating with an adjustable electrical sheet resistance of between 25 and 2000 Ω/sq without thereby influencing its optical properties. The anti-reflective coating can be applied onto a flexible substrate (e.g. a polymer film) by means of a single 12 or double pass vacuum magnetron sputtering operation.

The invention relates to a solar control film comprising at least one infrared reflecting layer comprising a metal and at least one infrared absorbing layer comprising nanoparticles. The infrared absorbing layer is thereby located further from the sun than the infrared reflecting layer. By combining first reflection of the infrared energy and then absorption of the infrared energy, an optimum between reflection and absorption is obtained.
