The present invention is directed to a method for making a conformal antenna on a surface by providing a composition comprising a polymer matrix and a plurality of metalized tubules and applying the composition to the surface as two parallel wires connected at their ends to make a closed loop with one of the parallel wires broken in the middle. Also disclosed is an alternate method for making a conformal antenna on a surface by spraying a first material comprising a polymer matrix onto the surface and simultaneously spraying a second material comprising a plurality of metalized tubules and a coagulant onto the surface, wherein the first and second materials mix together during the spraying. A further method for making a conformal antenna includes spraying a first material comprising a polymer matrix and a plurality of metalized tubules onto the surface and simultaneously spraying a second material comprising an aqueous electroless plating bath onto the surface, wherein the first and second materials mix together during the spraying.

Provided is an electroless iron bath capable of depositing a ferromagnetic FeB coating onto Pd/Sn-catalyzed substrates at room temperature without the need for an accompanying galvanic couple. The new electroless iron bath is comprised of Fe2+ as the metal source, citrate as the metal chelator, boric acid buffer as the pH controller, and borohydride as the reductant. Surface analysis following plating confirms the deposition of an amorphous FeB coating onto the surface of Pd/Sn-catalyzed cellulose microfibers.

This method may be practiced using a slurry of hollow microtubules, where the lumen of these microtubules is loaded with an agent for the treatment of petroleum well environments, and where these loaded microtubules are dispersed in a liquid phase carrier selected from aqueous carriers, non-aqueous carriers, and emulsions of aqueous and non-aqueous materials. This method may also be practiced using a pill made of a consolidated mass of tubules loaded with one or more active agents, typically bound with a binder.

Microspheres, of controllable shape and size, encapsulating active ingredients, are made by the internally controlled gelation of an emulsion including a water-soluble polysaccharide, a salt of a di- or trivalent metal cation, a polymerization inhibitor, water, a water-immiscible solvent (as a non-aqueous phase), and the active ingredient. The components of the aqueous phase, containing the water-soluble polysaccharide, polymerization inhibitor, di- or trivalent metal salt, active substance, and water, are blended together. This aqueous phase is then gradually mixed with the oil phase and agitated to form an emulsion. After sufficient time for solidification, the emulsion is broken and the resulting microspheres are collected. The active ingredient may be various substances, including live microorganisms.

The present invention is a composition for, and a method of, delivering an active agent at a controlled rate. The composition of the invention is a hollow ceramic or inorganic microtubule, where the active agent is contained within the lumen of the microtubules. Typically, the agent is adsorbed onto an inner surface of the microtubule. The method of the invention is disposing this novel composition in a use environment. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, a microtubule is a tubule having an inner diameter of less than 0.2 .mu.m, and microtubules are tubules having an average inner diameter less than 0.2 .mu.m. In a preferred embodiment, the hollow ceramic or inorganic microtubule is a mineral microtubule, such as halloysite, cylindrite, boulangerite, or imogolite. In a more preferred embodiment of the invention, the mineral microtubule has a biodegradable polymeric carrier disposed in its lumen. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the inner diameter of the microtubules varies from about 0.20 .mu.m to about 0.35 .mu.m, or averages about 0.40 .mu.m. In another preferred embodiment, of the invention, the inner diameter of the microtubules varies from about 200 .ANG. to about 1000 .ANG..
