Abstract:
An encoding device that, when encoding frame image groups which represent scenes respectively viewed from plurality of viewpoints over predetermined time period, generates base-view video stream by encoding frame image group of standard viewpoint without using, as reference image, any frame image of other viewpoints, generates first-type dependent-view video stream by encoding frame image group of first-type viewpoint by using, as reference image, frame image of same time of base-view video stream or of another first-type dependent-view video stream, first-type viewpoint being positioned such that at least one viewpoint is present between first-type viewpoint and standard viewpoint, and generates second-type dependent-view video stream by encoding frame image group of second-type viewpoint by using, as reference images, frame images of same time of two viewpoints sandwiching second-type viewpoint, second-type viewpoint being neither standard viewpoint nor first-type viewpoint.
Abstract:
An image coding method for properly handling a 3D video format including a base layer and an enhancement layer includes a video layer and a system layer. The video layer includes a step of coding an image to generate a coded stream. The system layer includes a step of multiplexing the coded stream and an identifier to generate a system stream, the identifier indicating whether or not the image has a left-right mixed format that includes a base layer and an enhancement layer and that has a left view image area and a right view image area in each picture. In the coding step, the image that includes the base layer and the enhancement layer and that has the left view image area and the right view image area in each picture is coded to generate the coded stream, when the image has the left-right mixed format.
Abstract:
A recording method for recording a base video stream and an enhancement video stream. The recording method includes: a first step of generating the base video stream by performing an irreversible conversion on an original image; and a second step of generating the enhancement video stream that includes a shift parameter and picture data. A gradation bit sequence of each pixel constituting the picture data of the enhancement video stream represents a difference between a gradation bit sequence of each pixel constituting picture data of the original image and a gradation bit sequence of each pixel constituting picture data of the base video stream. The shift parameter defines a shift operation that is performed by a playback device when the gradation bit sequence of the base video stream is added to the gradation bit sequence of the enhancement video stream.
Abstract:
A recording medium has a main-view stream, a sub-view stream, and an extended stream recorded thereon. The main-view stream contains a main-view video stream constituting main views of stereoscopic video images, and is divided into a plurality of main-view extents arranged on the recording medium. The sub-view stream contains a sub-view video stream constituting sub-views of the stereoscopic video images, and is divided into a plurality of sub-view extents arranged on the recording medium. The extended stream contains extended data to be used in combination with the main-view stream, and is divided into a plurality of extended extents arranged on the recording medium. Between an adjacent pair of the plurality of extended extents, at least two each of the plurality of the main-view extents and the plurality of the sub-view extents are placed in a continuous, interleaved arrangement.
Abstract:
A data creation device performing compression encoding on first frame images showing a view from a first viewpoint and second frame images showing a view from a second viewpoint generates a stream in an MPEG-2 format, and base-view/dependent-view video streams in a format conforming to an MPEG-4 MVC format. The stream in the MPEG-2 format is generated by performing compression encoding on the first frame images. The base-view video stream is a stream of dummy data having the same number of frames as and a smaller data amount than the stream in the MPEG-2 format. The dependent-view video stream is obtained by performing compression encoding on each frame of the second frame images, with reference to a frame of the stream in the MPEG-2 format to be presented at the same time as a frame of the base-view video stream corresponding to the frame of the second frame images.
Abstract:
On a recording medium, stereoscopic and monoscopic specific areas are located one after another next to a stereoscopic/monoscopic shared area. The stereoscopic/monoscopic shared area is a contiguous area to be accessed both in stereoscopic video playback and monoscopic video playback. The stereoscopic specific area is a contiguous area to be accessed immediately before a long jump occurring in stereoscopic video playback. In both the stereoscopic/monoscopic shared area and the stereoscopic specific area, extents of base-view and dependent-view stream files are arranged in an interleaved manner. The extents on the stereoscopic specific area are next in order after the extents on the stereoscopic/monoscopic shared area. The monoscopic specific area is a contiguous area to be accessed immediately before a long jump occurring in monoscopic video playback. The monoscopic specific area has a copy of the entirety of the extents of the base-view stream file recorded on the stereoscopic specific area.
Abstract:
A base-view video stream and a dependent-view video stream are recorded on a BD-ROM. The base-view video stream includes picture data constituting a base view of a stereoscopic image. The dependent-view video stream includes offset metadata and picture data constituting a dependent view of the stereoscopic image. The offset metadata includes an offset sequence that defines an offset control of a plane memory when a graphics to be overlaid with the picture data is played back in a one-plane offset mode.

Abstract:
A pair of main-view and sub-view video streams, a graphics stream, and playlist information are recorded on a BD-ROM disc. The sub-view video stream includes metadata arranged in each GOP. The metadata includes a correspondence table associating offset identifiers and offset information. The offset information defines offset control for each picture in a GOP. Offset control is processing to provide a left offset and right offset for the horizontal coordinates in a graphics plane to generate a pair of graphics planes that are respectively combined with main-view and sub-view video planes. The playlist information includes a stream selection table for each playback section. When the stream selection table associates a stream number with a packet identifier of a graphics stream, one of the offset identifiers is further allocated to the stream number.
