The process involves admitting light in a first wavelength band through a first light admission port into a first optical cavity at least partially defined by a first reflector operably configured to reflect light out of the first optical cavity. The process also involves filtering ambient light reflected into the first optical cavity and entering and exiting a first space defined about the first light admission port such that ambient light outside the first wavelength band is attenuated on entry and exit from the first space.

摘要： A mixing chamber includes a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface. At least two light emitting diodes are disposed along the first surface. At least a portion of the first surface is reflective, and the second surface includes a reflective region and a plurality of openings formed in the reflective region. In some embodiments, the first surface and the second surface are separated by at least one side surface. Light emitted from the light emitting diodes is reflected off the first surface, reflective region of the second surface, and side surfaces of the mixing chamber until it is emitted from the openings of the second surface.

摘要： A backlight uses an array of red, green, and blue LEDs in a mixing chamber. The mixing chamber has reflecting surfaces and a top opening for illuminating LCD layers. A desired brightness profile and better color uniformity are obtained by using techniques including arranging the LEDs in certain sequences and patterns, providing a specular ring at the base of each LED, attenuating the brightness of the LEDs at the edges, and using widely separated diffusers in the mixing chamber. The arrangement, selection, and control of the multicolored LEDs may be tailored to achieve any desired white point specified by the display manufacturer.

摘要： In the field of flexible displays there is a need for an electro-optic filament that is capable of being woven, knitted or crocheted. An electro-optic filament or fibre (10) includes an elongate core (11) extending lengthwise within a volume (12) of polarisable material; and an outer electrode member (13) overlying the volume (12). The core (11) and outer member (13) are electrically conducting and connectable to electrical potentials to generate a radial field in the polarisable material. The outer member (13) is optically transmissive and/or transflective. The polarisable material (12) exhibits an optical effect such as a colour change, change in polarisation or change in reflectivity, when subjected to a said field or a change in a said field. The filament or fibre may readily be woven into eg. a fabric or a garment, using conventional textile processing machinery.
