The method comprises the steps of monitoring each phase of the power supply to the compressor motor; calculating the average phase for the phases of the AC power supply; determining a maximum phase unbalance deviation from the average phase; determining if a first level of phase unbalance protection is active; setting a system protection level as the first level of phase unbalance protection if the first level is active; setting the system protection level as a second higher level of phase unbalance protection if the first level is not active; and initiating a compressor motor shutdown if the system protection level is exceeded by the maximum unbalanced phase deviation.

    摘要: A system includes a motor, an inverter bridge, a voltage detection circuit, and a controller. The motor has a stator and a rotor. The inverter bridge is configured to provide a voltage to the stator, and includes a first switch connected in a series-type relationship with a second switch, a first diode coupled across the first switch, and a second diode coupled across the second switch. The voltage detection circuit is configured to detect a back EMF voltage in the winding. The controller is configured to control the first switch and the second switch to drive the motor, and to receive an indication of the back EMF voltage in the winding from the voltage detection circuit. The controller is also configured to determine a fault has occurred, and to drive one of the first switch and the second switch when a fault has occurred.

    摘要: To protect the bearings, lubricant and seals of a refrigerant compressor, the compressor includes one or more inductors for mitigating a high frequency common mode current that produces a high frequency shaft voltage. Each inductor is a ring of magnetic material encircling three insulated cables that convey three-phase power from an adjustable frequency drive to the compressor's motor. Without the inductors, the high frequency shaft voltage can become damagingly high due to the length of a cast iron housing that can be particularly long if the housing contains both a motor and several centrifugal impellers. The high frequency shaft voltage is just one component of a composite adverse shaft voltage. Another component, known as an operationally induced shaft voltage, can be reduced by a grounding contact, so instead of using just an inductor or just a contact, both can be used to provide a total solution to the problem.

    摘要: A control for a variable capacity reciprocating compressor water chiller system. A microprocessor connected to monitor return and supply fluid temperature sensors in the system is programmed to vary the compressor capacity in response to the deviation of the return and supply chilled water temperatures from desired values. The control determines these desired values as a function of predetermined full load return, supply, and reference temperature setpoints, and as a function of the relative loading of the chiller system. The control also functions to selectively offset the chilled water temperatures in one of three control modes. If zone temperature sensors are connected to the control, the offset is a function of the deviation of the weighted average zone temperature from a setpoint. The second control mode allows offset as a function of the outdoor ambient air temperature, and the third, as a function of a temporary setpoint.
