摘要: A coated implantable medical device 10 includes a structure 12 adapted for introduction into the vascular system, esophagus, trachea, colon, biliary tract, or urinary tract; at least one coating layer 16 posited on one surface of the structure; and at least one layer 18 of a bioactive material posited on at least a portion of the coating layer 16, wherein the coating layer 16 provides for the controlled release of the bioactive material from the coating layer. In addition, at least one porous layer 20 can be posited over the bioactive material layer 18, wherein the porous layer includes a polymer and provides for the controlled release of the bioactive material therethrough. Preferably, the structure 12 is a coronary stent. The porous layer 20 includes a polymer applied preferably by vapor or plasma deposition and provides for a controlled release of the bioactive material. It is particularly preferred that the polymer is a polyamide, parylene or a parylene derivative, which is deposited without solvents, heat or catalysts, and merely by condensation of a monomer vapor.

摘要: An intraluminal device is provided with a porous structure. The porous structure may be loaded with a bioactive substance to treat surrounding tissues after the intraluminal device has been implanted. The porous structure may be made by depositing a metal film on a foam structure using chemical vapor deposition. Porous structures may also be made by sintering or applying a ceramic layer to the intraluminal device. An intraluminal device is also provided with a ceramic material applied to generally straight portions of the device structure but not to portions adapted to bend. One advantage is that the ceramic material is less likely to fracture since it is applied to regions that experience less strain.

摘要: Slings, kits, and methods useful in the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) are described. An exemplary sling comprises a main body extending along a lengthwise axis and having first and second opposing ends, first and second opposing sides, and first and second opposing surfaces. Each end defines an end loop that defines a passageway extending through the main body. An exemplary method of treatment comprises creating two openings in the mandible of a patient; creating two longitudinal tunnels in the tongue of the patient; creating a transverse tunnel in the tongue of the patient; advancing a sling through the transverse tunnel; pulling each end of the sling through one of the longitudinal tunnels and through one of the openings in the mandible; pulling the tongue toward the front of the mouth or mandible; and securing the sling to a tissue to support the tongue in a new position.

摘要: Methods of treatment are described. More particularly, methods of providing access to a bodily passage, such as a salivary duct, are described herein. For example, methods of providing access to a salivary duct and introducing a sheath and wire guide are described herein. In addition, various methods of treatment are described herein. For example, methods of treating a stone located within a salivary duct are described herein.
