Abstract:
Various embodiments of methods and related equipment are provided, comprising: delivering a molten material into a forming and sizing assembly, processing the molten glass via the at least one pair of forming and sizing rollers to form a glass ribbon having a width and a thickness; imparting, at least one pinch region into the cross-sectional thickness of the glass ribbon to provide a pinched glass ribbon, rolling a pressure roller over the pinched glass ribbon on the sequentially spaced mold surfaces to impart a characteristic into the pinched glass ribbon to form a glass ribbon product.
Abstract:
Processes of chamfering and/or beveling an edge of a glass substrate of arbitrary shape using lasers are described herein. Two general methods to produce chamfers on glass substrates are the first method involves cutting the edge with the desired chamfer shape utilizing an ultra-short pulse laser that is followed by mechanical polishing with a compliant polishing wheel.
Abstract:
A method for forming a hole in a glass or glass-ceramic sheets includes scoring a major surface of a glass or glass-ceramic sheet to define the hole, placing the sheet on receiving surface of a mount where a cavity is formed in the receiving surface such that a peripheral edge of the cavity is positioned external to the area bounded by the first score, and fracturing the sheet along the first score to break away the portion of the sheet defined by the first score, wherein the broken away portion of the sheet is contained within the cavity.
Abstract:
A method of edge coating includes preparing a stack including a plurality of articles interleaved with spacer pads. A layer of coating material is formed on a surface of a coating roller. A perimeter of the stack is positioned at a select coating gap relative to the surface of the coating roller, and the coating material is transferred from the surface of the coating roller to perimeter edges of the articles in the stack.
Abstract:
A glass etching medium and a method for etching the surface of a glass sheet to modify surface flaw characteristics without degrading the optical quality of the sheet surface, wherein the etching medium is a thickened aqueous acidic fluoride-containing paste comprising at least one dissolved, water-soluble, high-molecular-weight poly (ethylene oxide) polymer thickener.

Abstract:
A method for processing material includes sintering a portion of a sheet of material at a location on the sheet, moving the sintering location along the sheet of material at a first rate, and pulling the sintered material away from the sintering location at a second rate that is greater than the first rate.

Abstract:
The disclosure provides a method for forming a hole in a glass or glass-ceramic sheets. The method includes scoring a major surface of a glass or glass-ceramic sheet to define the hole, placing the sheet on a cavity-containing receiving surface such that a peripheral edge of the cavity is positioned external to the area bounded by the first score, and fracturing the sheet along the score to break away the portion of the sheet defined by the first score. The method allows for the formation of large openings in thin glass sheets where the mother sheet is not broken or damaged by the formation of the opening.
Abstract:
An apparatus for locating a preform on a mold includes a preform handling tool and a force sensor coupled to the preform handling tool such that the force sensor is capable of sensing forces applied to the preform during handling of the preform by the preform handling tool. The apparatus includes a control device that is arranged and operable to move the preform handling tool relative to the mold. A method of locating the preform on the mold includes picking up the preform using the preform handling tool and placing the preform in a vicinity of the mold. Positions on the mold are mapped with an edge of the preform with the aid of the force sensor. The preform is paced on the mold according to the mapped positions.
