摘要: The present invention provides a system comprising an allophanate composition comprising a neutralized polyol, a polyuretdione resin, a tertiary amine catalyst, an additive package, and a reducer; and a neutralized basecoat comprising an inorganic salt and a pigment. The present invention further provides a method of making an allophanate system comprising combining a neutralized polyol with a polyuretdione resin in the presence of a tertiary amine catalyst, an additive package, and a reducer to produce an allophanate composition, and contacting the allophanate composition with a neutralized basecoat comprising an inorganic salt and a pigment. The system may be used to make coatings, adhesives, castings, composites, and sealants in which clear-coating on neutralized pigmented basecoats is much improved in comparison to coating on non-neutralized basecoats.

摘要: The present invention provides a reaction mixture comprising a blend of a first isocyanate-based uretdione-containing resin and a second isocyanate-based uretdione-containing resin, a neutralized polyol and a tertiary amine catalyst, and optionally, an additive package selected from the group consisting of flow control additives, pigments (colorants), wetting agents, and solvents, wherein the first isocyanate and the second isocyanate are different. The first isocyanate-based uretdione-containing resin and the second isocyanate-based uretdione-containing resin may be cold blended or hot blended. Coatings, adhesives, castings, composites, and sealants made from hot blended formulations exhibit superior performance over those made from cold blended formulations.

摘要: Provided is a polyurethane-polyisocyanurate hybrid composition comprising a mixture of an aliphatic polyisocyanate; a polyol having an acid number of ≤5 mg KOH/g; and a first catalyst, optionally, a second catalyst, wherein the mixture is reacted at an NCO/OH index of from 2.0 to 25. Also provided is a process for producing a polyurethane-polyisocyanurate hybrid composition, the process comprising forming a mixture of a) an aliphatic polyisocyanate, b) a polyol having an acid number of ≤5 mg KOH/g, and c) a first catalyst, optionally, d) a second catalyst, and reacting the mixture at an NCO/OH index of from 2.0 to 25. The polyol with a low acid value (≤5 mg KOH/g) included in the hybrid compositions helps ensure sufficient resin cure. The inventive polyurethane-polyisocyanurate hybrid compositions may find use in or as coatings and adhesives having improved hardness compared with polyisocyanurate coatings and higher reactivity that allows curing at lower temperatures.

摘要: Provided is a process for producing a polyisocyanurate comprising: trimerizing an aliphatic polyisocyanate with a trimerization catalyst in the presence of a thermally decomposable acid at a molar ratio of acid to catalyst of from 0.1 to 10, wherein the polyisocyanurate has a greater pot life than the pot life of the polyisocyanurate not containing the thermally decomposable acid. Polyisocyanurates made according to the inventive process lengthen the pot life of pultrusion composite formulations made therefrom without affecting the reactivity of the formulations. The pultrusion composite formulations of the invention may be cured and pultruded to yield a variety of products such as wind turbine blades, yacht shells, window frames, door frames, ladder frames, telegraph pole cross arms, tent poles, solar cell frames, solar cell backsheets, radomes, highway guard rails, floor boards, pipes, telegraph poles, auto trunks, luggage holders, engine covers, golf clubs, tennis poles, badminton poles, bicycle frames, surfboards, and snowboards.

摘要: The present invention provides a reaction mixture comprising a hot blend of a first isocyanate-based uretdione resin and a second isocyanate-based uretdione resin, a neutralized polyol and a tertiary amine catalyst, and optionally, an additive package selected from the group consisting of flow control additives, pigments (colorants), wetting agents, and solvents, wherein the first isocyanate and the second isocyanate are different. The isocyanate-based uretdiones that have been hot blended together produce coatings, adhesives, castings, composites, and sealants, which exhibit better performance properties (such as microhardness) than those coatings, adhesives, castings, composites, and sealants produced from the constituent isocyanate-based uretdiones alone.

摘要: An alternative polyurethane composition is provided which comprises the reaction product of a poly(alkynyl carbamate) prepolymer and an azidated polyol, wherein reaction occurs without a catalyst at a temperature of from 100° C. to 200° C., or occurs in the presence of a CuI-containing catalyst at a temperature of from 20° C. to 140° C. The inventive alternative polyurethane compositions may be used to provide solventborne or waterborne coatings, adhesives, sealants, films, elastomers, castings, foams, and composites.
