Abstract: A method for bonding components of a lithium ion battery module includes positioning an energy absorbing insert adjacent to a first thermoplastic layer of the lithium ion battery module and to a second thermoplastic layer of the lithium ion battery module. Energy is applied to the energy absorbing insert to melt the energy absorbing insert and thereby fuse the first thermoplastic layer to the second thermoplastic layer. The first thermoplastic layer is a transmissive or semi-transmissive layer configured to allow the energy the pass through the first thermoplastic layer for absorption by the energy absorbing insert.

Abstract: A battery module includes a housing, a plurality of battery cells disposed in the housing, and a printed circuit board (PCB) assembly disposed in the housing. The PCB assembly includes a PCB and a shunt disposed across a first surface of the PCB. A second surface of the shunt directly contacts the first surface of the PCB, and the shunt is electrically coupled between the battery cells and a terminal of the battery module.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a battery module that includes a housing having a first protruding shelf along a first perimeter of the housing, a second protruding shelf along a second perimeter of the housing, where the first and second protruding shelves each include an absorptive material configured to absorb a first laser emission. The battery module also includes an electronics compartment cover configured to be coupled to the housing via a first laser weld, and a cell receptacle region cover configured to be coupled to the housing via a second laser weld. The electronics compartment cover has a first transparent material configured to transmit the first laser emission toward the first protruding shelf and the cell receptacle region cover has a second transparent material configured to transmit the first laser emission or a second laser emission toward the second protruding shelf.

A plurality of terminal receivers are provided on the base and configured to couple to a plurality of battery terminals. One or more stress-relief features are provided on the channel. Abstract: Present embodiments include a lithium ion battery module having a lineup of prismatic lithium ion battery cells positioned within a cell receptacle area of a housing of the lithium ion battery module. The prismatic battery cells of the lineup are spaced apart from one another in a spaced arrangement by fixed protrusions extending from internal surfaces of the housing forming the cell receptacle area, and the fixed protrusions extend inwardly to form a plurality of discontinuous slots across a width of the cell receptacle area.

Abstract: The present disclosure includes a battery module that includes an electrochemical cell having a minor terminal. The battery module also includes a major terminal electrically coupled to the electrochemical cell, wherein the major terminal includes a base and a post extending from the base. Further, the battery module includes an electrical path between the minor terminal of the electrochemical cell and the major terminal of the battery module. The electrical path includes a bus bar having an opening that receives the post of the major terminal and a pocket that retains the base of the major terminal.

Abstract: A battery module includes a housing having a wall. The wall includes an opening extending from an inner surface of the wall facing an interior of the housing to an outer surface of the wall opposite to the inner surface. The battery module also includes a connector barrel having a first open end, a second open end, and a body portion extending between the first and second open ends. The body portion is positioned within the opening of the wall, the first open end is positioned within the interior of the housing, and the second open end is positioned external to the housing. A ridge on the body portion is disposed proximate to the outer surface of the wall, and a first circumferential bump on the body portion is disposed proximate to the inner surface of the wall. The battery module also includes a securement component disposed within a space defined by the first circumferential bump of the connector barrel. The wall is sandwiched between the ridge of the connector barrel and the securement component.

Abstract: A battery system includes a housing configured to receive a battery cell, where the battery cell is configured to output thermal energy as a byproduct of electrical energy generation and/or consumption, a wall of the housing positioned proximate to the battery cell, and a plurality of fins extending from the wall, where the plurality of fins is configured to absorb thermal energy from the battery cell and dissipate the thermal energy to air, or a heat sink, or both, and where a fin of the plurality of fins comprises a channel configured to facilitate a flow of the air between the fin of the plurality of fins and an adjacent fin of the plurality of fins.
