Abstract:
A lubricant grease consists essentially of (a) from 60 to 90% (by wt.) of a liquid siloxane of the general formula where each R is a methyl, -CH2CH2.CbF2b+ 1, aryl, alkaryl or haloaryl radical, where the halogen is fluorine, bromine or chlorine, b has an integral value of 1 to 12, and n and a are numbers selected to yield a liquid having a viscosity at 25 DEG C. of 75 to 30,000 cs., the siloxane having at least a 30% (wt.) fluorine content, and (b) 10 to 40% of one or more compounds of the formula where R1 is a lower alkyl radical, x is 0 or 1, m is 0, 1 or 2, and Z is a monovalent nitrophenyl, a ,a ,a -trifluorotolyl, aryl, alkaryl, haloaryl or cycloalkyl radical containing at least 5 C atoms, and at least 1/8 of the Z radicals being nitrophenyl and/or a ,a ,a -trifluorotolyl radicals. Ingredient (b) is a reaction product of isocyanates with primary amines and may be formed in situ in siloxane (a). Conventional additives may also be present, e.g. pentachlorophenylmercapto acetic acid, MoS2, corrosion inhibitors and inorganic pigments. In a typical Example (1) ingredient (b) is formed in situ in the siloxane and in the presence of a solvent which is subsequently removed. The compositions are also useful as sealing compounds and rubber lubricants.ALSO:A lubricant grease consists essentially of (a) from 60 to 90% (by wt.) of a liquid siloxane of the formula where each R is a methyl, -CH2CH2.CbF2b + 1, aryl, alkaryl or haloaryl (the halogen being fluorine, chlorine or bromine) radical, b has a value of 1 to 12, and n and a are numbers selected to yield a liquid having a viscosity at 25 DEG C. of 75 to 30,000 cs., the siloxane having at least a 30% (by wt.) fluorine content, and (b) 10 to 40% of one or more compounds of the formula where R1 is a lower alkyl radical, x is 0 or 1, m is 0, 1 or 2, and Z is a monovalent nitrophenyl, a ,a ,a -trifluorotolyl, aryl, alkaryl or haloaryl radical or a cycloalkyl radical of at least 5 C atoms, and at least 1/8 of the Z radicals being nitrophenyl and/or a ,a ,a -trifluorotolyl radicals. Abstract:
A high temperature lubricant comprises a mixture of a high temperature organic lubricating fluid and from 0.1 to 5% by weight of a compound of formula wherein R is an alkyl radical having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, R1 is an alkyl radical having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, or a phenyl or vinyl radical, or hydrogen or a radical OR111, wherein R111 is an alkyl radical having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R11 is a phenyl or OR111 radical and m is 1, 2 or 3, there being at least one vinyl radical, hydrogen atom or alkoxy radical bonded directly to the silicon atom. The aminophenylsilane constituent may be replaced by a mixture containing 20 to 80% thereof, the balance being a conventional amine antioxidant. Preferred organic lubricating fluids are esters of alkanoic acids containing at least 5 carbon atoms and polyhydric alcohols containing at least two methylol groups bound to a quaternary carbon atom, e.g. 1,2,2-trimethylol propane. Esters of tertiary alkyl carbinols having a methylol radical on a quaternary carbon atom and dicarboxylic acids, e.g. bis-(2,2,4-trimethylpentyl) sebacate, are also suitable. The lubricating fluid may comprise a mixture of the said esters with a silicone lubricating fluid. The preferred conventional amine anti-oxidant is phenyl a -naphthylamine.ALSO:Aminophenylsilanes of the formula wherein R is an alkyl radical having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, R1 is an alkyl radical having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, or a phenyl or vinyl radical or hydrogen or a radical OR111, wherein R111 is an alkyl radical having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R11 is a phenyl or OR111 radical and m is 1, 2 or 3, are prepared by reacting the appropriate chlorosilane with either the appropriate p-(N,N-dialkylamino) phenylmagnesium halide or a lithium reagent prepared from lithium and a p-halogeno-N,N-dialkylaniline. Reaction takes place by refluxing in, e.g., tetrahydrofuran. Compounds of formula and the particular compound wherein R1 is phenyl are claimed per se. The compounds of the present Specification act as antioxidants in lubricating compositions.
