    摘要: A device for gathering tissue samples includes a needle defining a distal tissue penetrating tip. The needle includes an increased diameter proximal portion extending proximally from the distal tip. An outer diameter of the distal tip is smaller than an outer diameter of the proximal portion. The needle defines a lumen extending therethrough from a distal opening in the distal tip thereof to a proximal opening at a proximal end thereof. The lumen includes a distal portion having a first inner diameter and a proximal portion having a second diameter greater than the first diameter. The device also includes a stylet slidably received within the lumen. An outer diameter of a distal portion of the stylet is substantially equal to the inner diameter of the distal portion of the lumen so that, when the stylet is in an extended position extending to the distal opening of the lumen, the lumen is substantially sealed thereby, and when, in a retracted position in which a distal end of the stylet is received within the proximal portion of the lumen, an annular space surrounding the stylet defines an aspiration path for samples exiting the distal portion of the lumen.

    摘要: An intravascular catheter that exhibits the combined features of superior flexibility, softness, radiopacity and oval/kink resistance. The catheter includes an elongate shaft having a proximal region, a distal region and a lumen extending therethrough. The proximal region of the shaft includes an inner lubricious polymer layer, a reinforcement layer and an outer layer. The reinforcement layer comprises a braid having one or more metallic members and a plurality of polymer members wherein each polymer member comprises a plurality of monofilaments, preferably formed of LCP. The polymer members of the braid provide improved flexibility and softness in addition to high burst pressure. The metallic member(s) of the braid provide improved radiopacity and oval/kink resistance. The catheter may also include a longitudinal member extending along the reinforcement layer.

    摘要: A medical instrument converts linear movement of a shaft at a proximal end of the instrument to a rotational movement of an end effector of the instrument. According to one embodiment, the medical instrument includes an end effector formed of a snare loop connected to a shaft that is located within a sleeve. Once the sleeve is located near a desired location within a patient, the snare loop may be rotationally positioned with linear movement of the shaft by the operator. The shaft is formed with a threaded portion that matches threads formed in a torque transmitter element fixed within the sleeve. Linear movement of the shaft through the torque transmitter element causes the shaft to rotate. The medical instrument may also include a pivot connector for reducing torque build-up of the shaft and/or a clutch assembly for restricting controlled rotation of the snare loop to only one direction.

The wire coil may have a proximal portion comprised of a first wire and a distal portion comprised of a second wire. The second wire may have a diameter less than a diameter of the first wire so that the distal portion of the wire coil may have a flexibility greater than a flexibility of the proximal portion.
