摘要: A dental implant for anchoring in bone, wherein said bone comprises an outer cortical bone section and an inner cancellous bone section is made of a body of resorbable material such as coral, having a portion capable of being wedged into the cancellous bone. The body of coral has a generally cylindrical root portion, an emergent portion capable of being wedged into said outer cortical bone section, and a transgingival coronal portion being sized to extend beyond said emergent portion to end beyond a gingival layer, and an abutment portion and a head for retention of said prosthetic device at the other end, wherein said abutment portion meets said coronal portion at an interface beyond said gingival layer. The body of coral is substantially electroplated with a suitable plating material such as gold. At least some of the root portion is absent said plating material so as to allow the bone to enter the substantially plated body of coral to resorb and replace at least some of the coral.

摘要: A scanning laser having a wavelength compatible with a coating binder so as to cure it as the laser scans and irradiates the coating on a moving web. A system and method for curing flakes by providing a scanning laser which scans across a moving coated substrate in a magnetic field allows images to be formed as magnetically aligned flakes are cured into a fixed position. The images have regions of cured aligned flakes. The scanning laser cures the magnetically aligned flakes within it region it irradiates. Alternatively an array of lasers can be used wherein individual lasers can be switched on and off to fix irradiated coating as a moving web is moved at a high speed.

摘要: A dental shield for lessening unwanted hazardous reflections of light in a wavelength band between 400 nm and 500 nm. The dental shield is similar to a traditional shield used on a hand held light delivery device, however the shield is antireflective coated on one or both sides to protect the non-user of the shield; the patient, so that harmful reflections into the patient's eyes can be lessened. The filter prevents at least 98% of UV or blue light from being reflected.

摘要: A metameric optical structure is disclosed having first optical structures comprising diffractive flakes having diffractive structures thereon, and a second optical structures having non-diffractive flakes which may have other special effect properties, such as color shifting. At one angle of incidence or one viewing angle, near normal. The hues match and at other angles they do not match. The diffractive flakes are preferably magnetically aligned so that the grating structures are parallel. Disclosed is also an image formed of at least a first region of diffractive flakes and a second region of non-diffractive flakes wherein the regions are adjacent one another and wherein one of the regions forms a logo, symbol or indicia that appears or disappears in dependence upon the angle of viewing.

摘要: A printed article is disclosed having a light transmissive substrate having a reverse printed region on a surface thereof in the form of a plurality of very closely spaced printed lines or regions. The printed regions and spaces therebetween are subsequently flood coated with special effect ink such as optically variable ink wherein the ink particle size is on average greater than the gap between reverse printed regions. The image is viewed from the non-printed side of the substrate and very fine lines of the special effect flood coated special effect ink appear as very clear sharp lines having a fine resolution. This eliminates the typical jagged edges that would otherwise be seen if the inked region was not present. This effect is due to the first printed inked regions or lines forming a mask through which the flood coated ink is seen.

摘要: This invention discloses a magnet for use as a printing plate or printing head that is used for aligning flakes or particles in a paint or ink. A composite sheet or block of magnetizable material is selectively magnetized so that a magnet is formed within the sheet or block that has a shape of a predetermined image, logo, or indica. Dies are used to magnetize the magnetizable material and preferably the does contact the material to be magnetized. A pre-magnetized sheet such as a refrigerator magnet may be re-magnetized differently so that a magnetic image is encoded therein for use as a printing plate. Preferably the printing plate is flexible so that it can be formed to a curved surface of a cylinder or drum for printing. Conveniently these flexible magnets can be changed for other designs and placed on the same drum for use in printing.
