摘要: Harvesting apparatuses comprising a generally cylindrical outer cannula having one end secured in a first handle and having a distal end that is generally semicylindrical, and a generally cylindrical inner cannula having one end secured in a second handle and having a distal end that is generally semicylindrical, are provided. The present invention provides for apparatuses wherein the inner cannula is rotatable with respect to the outer cannula such that, in cooperation with the outer cannula, a volume at the distal end of both cannulas is substantially enclosed. Also provided are kits comprising the apparatuses of the present invention, as well as methods of using the apparatuses of the present invention.

摘要: A syringe configured to deliver viscous compositions is described, in which the syringe may include an elongate chamber having side port(s) extending therefrom. Various viscous compositions may be inserted through the side port(s) and into the elongate chamber, which may further house a plunger for ejecting the composition. One portion of the plunger may interact with a restricted opening on the chamber to inhibit removal of the plunger from the chamber; and another portion of the plunger may have a locking structure, which cooperates with a locking structure on the chamber to selectively fix the plunger with respect to the chamber. The plunger may also be fully slidable within the chamber when the locking structures of the plunger and the elongate chamber are not engaged. Related methods of using the aforementioned syringe, as well as kits including further instruments that interact with the syringe, are also disclosed.

摘要: Miniature defibrillators and cardioverters detect abnormal heart rhythms and automatically apply electrical therapy to restore normal heart function. Critical to this function, aluminum-electrolytic capacitors store and deliver life-saving bursts of electric charge to the heart. This type of capacitor requires regular “reform” to preserve its charging efficiency over time. Because reform expends valuable battery energy, manufacturers developed wet-tantalum capacitors, which are generally understood not to require reform. Yet, the present inventors discovered through extensive study that wet-tantalum capacitors exhibit progressively worse charging efficiency over time. Accordingly, to address this problem, the inventors devised unique reform techniques for wet-tantalum capacitors. One exemplary technique entails charging wet-tantalum capacitors to a voltage equal to about 90% of their rated voltage and allowing the charge to dissipate through system leakage for a period of time, before discharging through a non-therapeutic load.
