摘要: An anatomical model for simulating internal body structures of a patient, which in one embodiment includes a shell that simulates a body cavity and a length of animal tissue that simulates an organ in the body cavity. A sheath surrounds the animal tissue and is secured at one or more anchor points in the shell to support the animal tissue in the shell. In one embodiment, one or more force sensors are positioned to detect forces on the animal tissue or the shell.

摘要: Medical devices having an elongated steerable member are described herein. In one embodiment, a device includes an elongated body having a proximal section, a distal section, and a working lumen extending through the proximal and distal sections, a first coil having a distal portion, and a proximal portion, the proximal portion of the first coil being slidable relative to the proximal section of the elongated body, and being closer to a wall of the elongated body than to an axis of the elongated body, wherein a lengthwise portion of the distal portion of the first coil is anchored to the distal section of the elongated body, and a first steering wire located within a lumen of the first coil.

摘要: A video endoscope system includes a reusable control cabinet and an endoscope that is connectable thereto. The endoscope may be used with a single patient and then disposed. The endoscope includes an illumination mechanism, an image sensor, and an elongate shaft having one or more lumens located therein. An articulation joint at the distal end of the endoscope allows the distal end to be oriented by the actuators in the control cabinet or actuators in a control handle of the endoscope. Fluidics, electrical, navigation, image, display and data entry controls are integrated into the system along with other accessories.

摘要: Systems and methods that utilize shape sensing fibers are described herein. In certain variations, a fiber may include a service loop or other length that allows for sliding or displacing of a fiber within the lumen of an elongate instrument when the distal portion of the elongate instrument is articulated. Systems and methods for registering a shape sensing fiber, including registration fixtures and registration techniques are also described herein.

摘要: An endoscopic imaging system includes a reusable control cabinet having a number of actuators that control the orientation of a lightweight endoscope that is connectable thereto. The endoscope is used with a single patient and is then disposed. The endoscope includes an illumination mechanism, an image sensor, and an elongate shaft having one or more lumens located therein. An articulation joint at the distal end of the endoscope allows the distal end to be oriented by the actuators in the control cabinet. The endoscope is coated with a hydrophilic coating that reduces its coefficient of friction and because it is lightweight, requires less force to advance it to a desired location within a patient.
