The invention provides an efficient method for releasing a shaped body of a polymeric material such as a foamed polyurethane resin from a mold in which the body has been molded without the problem of adhesion to the mold. The invention provides a method for protecting the surface of various kinds of shaped articles made of an organic polymeric material such as rubbers, leathers, woods, plastics and the like against weathering caused by exposure to ultraviolet light, ozone, moisture, etc. The method comprises providing the surface with a coating layer of a specific organopolysiloxane composed of difunctional, tetrafunctional and nonofunctional siloxane units in a limited molar proportion of 50-85%, 10-30% and 5-20%, respectively.

The invention provides a novel organopolysiloxane-containing aqueous emulsion composition which, upon removal of water by drying at room temperature, can give a cured rubbery elastomer having excellent mechanical properties and exhibiting strong adhesion to the substrate on which it has been cured. The inventive composition is prepared by blending (A) an aqueous emulsion of an organopolysiloxane having silicon-bonded hydroxy groups and emulsified in water by use of an anionic surface active agent, (B) a mixture of a reaction product of a carboxylic acid anhydride with an amino-functional organosilane and a colloidal silica in the form of an aqueous suspension and (C) a curing catalyst in limited proportions.

Disclosed is an aqueous organopolysiloxane emulsion for use as an adjuvant to hair-care treatment toiletry preparations suitable in respect of the good storage stability and relatively large average diameter of the organopolysiloxane droplets of 0.1 to 1.0 mm despite the high viscosity of the organopolysiloxane and the high content of the organopolysiloxane. The organopolysiloxane emulsion consists of: (A) 70 to 90% by weight of an organopolysiloxane having a viscosity of 1×105 mPa·s or higher; (B) 1 to 15% by weight of a surface active agent; and (C) 5 to 25% by weight of water.

The method comprises (a) preparing an aqueous dispersion of globular particles of a cured silicone rubber having a specified average particle diameter by the in situ crosslinking hydrosilation reaction in liquid droplets of a vinyl group-containing dimethylpolysiloxane and an organohydrogenpolysiloxane in combination in the presence of a surface active agent and (b) admixing a base mixture consisting of the principal ingredients of a water-base toiletry composition with a specified amount of the aqueous dispersion of the cured silicone rubber particles.

A novel aqueous organopolysiloxane emulsion composition of the oil-in-water type suitable as an additive ingredient in toiletry preparations for hair-care treatment, of which the organopolysiloxane particles have a relatively large volume-average particle diameter of 3 to 100 .mu.m as emulsified by using a quaternary ammonium chloride as a cationic surface active agent. The emulsion composition is advantageous in respect of the improved stability of the emulsion and increased retention on the hair treated with the hair-care composition. The emulsion composition is prepared in a process comprising the steps of: mixing the organopolysiloxane and the cationic surface active agent with a relatively small volume of water; vigorously agitating the mixture so as to cause phase inversion into an oil-in-water base emulsion; and diluting the base emulsion with an additional volume of water, optionally, containing the cationic surface active agent.

An oil-in-water aqueous organopolysiloxane emulsion suitable as an adjuvant, in particular, in a toiletry preparation such as a hair-care treatment preparation is disclosed by using a unique emulsification system including a quaternary ammonium chloride as a cationic surface active agent, in order to provide a solution for the problem of a dilemma between the use of a C.sub.16 or lower-alkyl quaternary ammonium salt having high emulsification power but exhibiting irritativeness to the human body and the use of a higher-alkyl quaternary ammonium salt having lower emulsification power but exhibiting no irritativeness. The emulsion composition comprises: (A) a high-polymeric organopolysiloxane mixed with and diluted by an organopolysiloxane of a lower viscosity; (B) a quaternary ammonium chloride having 1 or 2 stearyl or behenyl groups; (C) a polyoxyalkylene-modified organopolysiloxane or a polyhydric alcohol as an activity-promoting agent for the component (B); and (D) water each in a specified weight proportion. The emulsion can be prepared by first forming a water-in-oil emulsion from the respective ingredients though with a reduced amount of water, then effecting phase inversion of the emulsion by continued agitation from the water-in-oil emulsion to an oil-in-water emulsion; and diluting the emulsion with an additional amount of water.
