Abstract:
A method and system for selective activation of a vehicle near field communication (NFC) module. The vehicle NFC module may be part of a vehicle communication and access system capable of initiating various vehicle functions, such as unlocking one or more doors of the vehicle or starting a motor or engine of the vehicle. With the method and system, a user's mobile device can be used in lieu of a key or a key fob. In situations where the battery power level of the user's mobile device is low, such that Bluetooth or the generation of an active NFC signal is unavailable, the vehicle NFC module is maintained in an active mode. In the active mode, the vehicle NFC module can initiate a connection with a passive mobile NFC target. Otherwise, depending on the battery level of the user's mobile device, the vehicle NFC module is maintained in a standard sleep mode to save power.
Abstract:
A portable system including a digital connection plug, a processing hardware unit, and a non-transitory storage device including code causing the processing hardware unit to perform operations including dividing a received source video file or virtualized source video into a plurality of equal- or non-equal-sized image components. A resulting data-content package is stored at the system such as at a framebuffer thereof. System operations further comprise generating a meta-index package comprising a plurality of index components, each index component corresponding to a respective one of the equal-sized image components, storing the meta-index package, and sending the data-content package and the meta-index package to the host device for publishing of the image components sequentially, in accord with an order of the meta-index package, for display rendering streaming video corresponding to the source video file or virtualized source video.
Abstract:
An audio entertainment system for a vehicle includes a primary audio entertainment source to play a primary audio program and a secondary audio entertainment source to play a secondary audio program. The system has a plurality of front speakers, a left rear speaker, and a right rear speaker. A headphone set is for private listening by a rear seat passenger to the secondary audio program. The headphone set is selectably connectable to the secondary audio entertainment source. The system has a normal mode and a selectable enhanced rear seat entertainment mode. In the enhanced mode, an output sound power frequency spectrum of the rear speakers is automatically adjustable by frequency band to reduce audible interference between the primary program and the secondary program as audibly detected by the rear seat passenger while minimizing a disturbance to the primary audio program audibly detectable at the front seat row.
Abstract:
A communications system and method of operating a vehicle multi-tainment unit (VMU) within that communications system is disclosed. The method includes the steps of: (a) establishing a connection between the VMU and a mobile device; (b) retrieving from a cache associated with the VMU user data previously provided by the mobile device; (c) prior to receiving current user data from the mobile device, receiving via the connection recently-used user data from the mobile device; (d) comparing the previously-provided user data and the received recently-used data; and (e) updating the previously-provided user data based on the comparison.
Abstract:
An apparatus for use in rendering media in real-time by way of a distributed arrangement comprising a portable system and a host device. The apparatus includes a processing hardware unit and a non-transitory storage device comprising code causing the processing hardware unit to select a multi-tier frame-buffering technique, of a plurality of optional multi-tier frame-buffering techniques, to use for processing media data at the portable system and transferring the media data, as processed, from the portable system to the host device. The code also causes the processing hardware unit to initiate transferring, according to the selected frame-buffering technique, the processed media data by the portable system to the host device for processing at the host device for rendering the media. The apparatus in various embodiments includes the portable system and/or the host device. The plurality of optional multi-tier frame-buffering techniques include a circular frame-buffering technique and a single-file frame-buffering technique.
Abstract:
Distributed, duplexing, arrangements include a portable system and a host device. The portable system and the host device are configured in various embodiments to receive user input and, in response, affect a feature of itself or send a message to the other to alter a feature of the other. The portable system divides a source video file or a virtualized source video into a plurality of image components, and sends them to the host device for publishing of the image components sequentially for real-time display rendering of streaming video by way of the host device and a display component. The portable system can generate a meta-index package, wherein each constituent index component corresponds to a respective image component, and can send the image components as part of a circular data-content package.

Abstract:
In one aspect, the technology includes a portable system, for providing add-on resources to a host device, such as a vehicle host device. The portable system includes a portable-system resource, which in various embodiments is at least partially a part of a portable-system data storage. The data storage includes at least one companion application that, when executed, provides, based on operation of the portable-system resource, host-device output for use at the host device, wherein the host-device output is output that the host device could not produce on its own or is supplemental to output that the host device can produce on its own. Example portable-system resources include a central-processing unit, a graphics processor, an application shop, an app-refresh program, security or hardware accelerators, and a speech recognition or three-dimensional rendering program. The technology in various embodiments also includes the host device described herein.
Abstract:
A system and method for providing wireless communication between a handheld mobile device and an embedded vehicle system of a motor vehicle. The system includes a communication module that utilizes at least two different short range wireless communication technologies to facilitate communication and/or pairing of an occupant's smartphone or other mobile device with an embedded vehicle system such as a vehicle infotainment system. This includes the use of a very short range communication technology, such as Near Field Communication (NFC), to communicate between the mobile device and an embedded vehicle system that is located outside of the operational range of the NFC or other very short range communication technology used by the mobile device.
