摘要: A welding material assembly is constructed and arranged to position a welding material in electrically conductive relation between exterior surface portions of first and second weldable members at a location where the first and second weldable members are to be joined. The welding material assembly includes at least one welding material member mounted on a flexible carrier sheet in a predetermined arrangement with each welding material member being constructed of an electrically conductive metallic welding material capable of melting when heated by application of an electrical current. Each welding material member is mounted on the sheet such that when the sheet is placed between the exterior surfaces of the first and second weldable members to be welded, each welding material member is electrically conductively disposed therebetween.

摘要: A welding material assembly is constructed and arranged to position a welding material in electrically conductive relation between exterior surface portions of first and second weldable members at a location where the first and second weldable members are to be joined. The welding material assembly includes at least one welding material member mounted on a flexible carrier sheet in a predetermined arrangement, each welding material member being constructed of an electrically conductive metallic welding material capable of melting when heated by application of an electrical current and each carrier sheet being constructed of a material that is electrically nonconductive. Each welding material member is mounted on the sheet such that when the sheet is placed between the exterior surfaces of said first and second weldable members to be welded each said welding material member is electrically conductively disposed therebetween.

摘要: A system for modifying the range capability of an electric vehicle includes a vehicle body having a front axle and a rear module secured to the vehicle body. The rear module includes a rear axle and the rear module is detachable from the vehicle body and replaceable with another rear module. The rear modules may include different range extension capabilities. The rear modules may include a battery or a combustion engine that may supplement the standard battery and electric motor of the vehicle. A pair of laterally translatable pins of the rear module may be moveable into and out of engagement with the vehicle body. The rear module may also include vertically extending posts that engage with the vehicle body. The vehicle body may be raised to disengage the posts from the vehicle body.

摘要: A method of forming this vehicle space frame joint is carried out by (1) forming an elongated first member constructed of a metallic material that includes an end segment having a predetermined length and having an exterior surface that defines an exterior configuration of the end segment; (2) forming an elongated tubular hydroformed second member by hydroforming a tubular blank having a tubular metallic wall so as to outwardly deform the tubular metallic wall into a predetermined exterior surface configuration determined by the engagement of the tubular metallic wall with die surfaces of a die assembly, the hydroformed second member having an intermediate segment that includes first and second spaced apart wall portions; (3) forming generally aligned first and second openings within the first and second wall portions, respectively, of the intermediate segment of the second member, the first and second openings being of complimentary configuration to portions of the exterior surface of the end segment of the first member; (4) placing the end segment of the first member through the first and second openings such that portions of the exterior surface of the end segment are in abutting engagement with edge portions of the openings; and (5) welding the intermediate segment and the end segment together in the area of said abutting engagement between exterior surface portions of the end segment and the edge portions of the openings.

摘要: A space frame includes a pair of laterally spaced, longitudinally extending side rail structures and longitudinally spaced pairs of laterally spaced upright structures having joints at their lower ends with the pair of side rail structures. The longitudinal spaced pairs of laterally spaced upright structures extend upwardly from the side rails structures and define a plurality of pairs of pillars, including a pair of forward A pillars, a longitudinally spaced pair of B pillars, and a longitudinally spaced pair of rearward end pillars. A pair of the side roof structures has joints with the pair of A pillars. The pair of side roof structures extends longitudinally rearwardly from the pair of A pillars and have joints with the pair of B pillars and with the pair of rearward end pillars. Longitudinally spaced cross structures have joints with the pair of side rail structures, with the pair of A pillars and with the pair of side roof structures. A front structural assembly has joints with a forward end of the pair of side rail structures and with the A pillars at positions spaced upwardly of the pair of side rail structures. A plurality of the structures have more than two spaced successive joints which determine defining lengths in the space frame. The plurality of structures comprise a pair of hydroformed tubular members, each of which is defined by an irregularly outwardly deformed tubular metallic wall fixed into a predetermined irregular exterior surface configuration.

摘要: A method for joining a first part formed of an aluminum material to a second part formed of a steel material by metal inert gas welding and cold metal transfer is provided. An aluminum filler material forms a fillet joint between the parts and provides a structure for automotive body applications, such an aluminum bumper extrusion joined to a steel crush box connection. The first part includes a notch for hiding the start and end of the joint. A transition plate formed of a mixture of aluminum material and steel material can be disposed between the first part and the second part to provide the notch. The second part can include a mechanical fastener further joining the parts together. In another embodiment, the second part includes a plurality of dimples and is welded to the first part along the dimples.

摘要: In one aspect of the present invention, a solar energy collection system that includes multiple longitudinally adjacent collectors is described. The collectors are coupled end to end to form a collector row. The collector row extends along a longitudinal axis and is arranged to rotate about a pivot axis to track the sun in at least one dimension. Each collector includes a reflector, one or more solar receivers and a support structure. The support structure includes a tube assembly that underlies the reflector. The tube assemblies of the collector row are arranged end to end along the longitudinal axis. There is a space between the tube assemblies of adjacent collectors in the collector row, where the reflectors of the adjacent collectors extend beyond the underlying tube assemblies to form a substantially continuous reflective surface over the space. A coupling device is positioned in the space between the tube assemblies. The coupling device connects and helps to rotate the tube assemblies of the adjacent collectors. Some embodiments relate to various types of coupling devices and collector arrangements.

摘要: A bumper beam for mounting to a frame assembly of a motor vehicle at one end of the motor vehicle includes opposing end portions adapted to be mounted to the frame assembly of the motor vehicle and a centrally disposed intermediate portion extending between the end portions. The end portions and the intermediate portion define an upper wall, a lower wall, and a central wall between the upper and lower walls. The upper and lower walls each have an elongated arcuate flange that extends from a free end of a respective upper and lower wall along a length of the bumper beam. The arcuate flange of each of the upper and lower walls defines an outwardly facing concave surface and an inwardly facing convex surface.
