Fresh system oil having a TBN less than 10 is provided and used in the two-stroke engine to produce partially used system oil. The partially used system oil is withdrawn from the two stroke engine and at least one friction modifier is added to at least some of the withdrawn partially used system oil, wherein the addition of the at least one friction modifier reduces the friction coefficient of the withdrawn system oil, resulting in a system oil having reduced friction. The system oil with reduced friction is combined with partially used system oil remaining in said two-stroke and the combined system oil is used to lubricate pistons of said two-stroke engine.

The fresh system oil is used in the two-stroke engine to product partially used system oil. An initial fluid containing at least some partially used system oil is provided. A first TBN of the initial fluid is determined. Cylinder oil having the target TBN is created by blending the initial fluid having the first TBN with at least one suited additive. The cylinder oil is provided to the two-stroke engine.

The present invention relates to a method of and a corresponding system for reducing fuel consumption and environmental impact in a two-stroke engine, comprising the steps of obtaining system oil/consumable system oil (301′) from at least one engine (300), adding (102) at least one friction modifier (101) to at least a part of the obtained system oil/consumable system oil (301′), where the addition of the at least one friction modifier (101) reduces the friction coefficient of the obtained system oil/consumable system oil (301′), resulting in a system oil/consumable system oil with reduced friction (301″), and supplying said system oil/consumable system oil with reduced friction (301″) to said at least one engine (300). In this way, frictional losses caused by contamination of the system oil/consumable system oil are avoided or minimised, which normally take place as the oil is used and which would otherwise cause a continuous decrease in engine efficiency resulting in increased fuel consumption and emissions. In addition, the present invention related to a method and a corresponding system to convert system oil/consumable system oil into cylinder oil. Finally, the present invention relates to a method to use a consumable system oil as it is being converted into cylinder oil. This furthermore allows for the consumable system oil to contain a lower performance additive package and/or additive treat rate. Thus great economical savings and environmental improvements are achieved.

Between the members is an annular gap defining a flow path for the fluid. The flow path is configured such that during differential rotation of the members, fluid is caused to flow through the annular gap that is a function of the differential rotation and the viscosity of the fluid. A sensor measures the torque or torque equivalent required to achieve such differential rotation between the members.

The present invention provides for a method for detecting leaks in a stuffing box of a two-stroke engine. Blended cylinder oil is produced by blending base fluid, at least one additive and a metal source having a first concentration. The metal source includes metals other than calcium and transition metals. The engine is operated by supplying the blended cylinder oil and a fuel to the engine cylinder. The concentration of the metal source is monitored using x-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (“XRF”) to obtain a second concentration of the metal source. The first concentration of the metal source is compared to the second concentration of the metal source.

Thus even when the engine is idling engine lubricant is circulated through the gear devices to maintain the temperature of the lubricant circulating through the gear devices within a relatively narrow temperature range. Also, the lubricant level within the gear devices will be maintained without the need for inspection of the gear devices as long as the engine lubricant level is regularly checked and maintained either manually or automatically. Further, by changing the engine lubricant at regular service intervals or using an automated lubricant change system, the quality and level of the lubricant in the gear devices is also maintained.

The polymerization of the hydrophilic monomer is conducted in an amidic solvent in which the hydrophobic block and the hydrophilic monomer are soluble.
