    Abstract: According to one embodiment, a thermostat includes a main body, a rotatable input component that is rotatably coupled with the main body, and a rotation detection system that is configured to sense user rotation of the rotatable input component. The rotatable input component is configured to be rotated by a user to enable the user to provide input to the thermostat. The rotation detection system includes a magnetic component that is positioned on an inner surface of the rotatable input component and that is magnetized so as to have a plurality of alternating north and south magnetic regions. The rotation detection system also includes a sensor that is positioned adjacent the magnetic component. The sensor is configured to detect polarity changes as the rotatable input component and magnetic component are rotated relative to the sensor.

    Abstract: Various methods related to antennas and embodiments of antennas are presented. The antenna may include an upper arm, wherein the upper arm is substantially parallel to a ground plane and is electrically coupled with at least a ground shorting structure, a support structure, and a feed structure. The antenna may include the ground shorting structure, which may be at a first end of the upper arm. The antenna may include the support structure, which may be at a second end of the length of the upper arm and may support the upper arm. The antenna may also include the feed structure, which is configured to provide a signal for wireless transmission, the feed structure may be attached to a side of the length of the upper arm.

    Abstract: The technology provides for an extension member configured to direct a magnetic field from a magnet to a Hall Effect sensor to facilitate detection of magnetic field. By varying the dimensions of the extension member, which may be any arbitrary shape, the relative positions of the magnet and the Hall Effect sensor may be less constrained by the reach of the magnetic field of the magnet, thereby allowing more design possibilities. The extension member may be used in a case, where the extension member may facilitate detection of whether the case is open or closed, the extension member may further provide magnetic attraction to keep the case closed.
