A method, apparatus, and non-transitory computer readable storage medium for traffic report certainty estimation. The approach may include determining at least one data input to a traffic model for generating a traffic report estimation for a road segment. The approach may also involve determining at least one input characteristic value associated with the at least one data input based, at least in part, on probe data collected from one or more sensors of at least one probe device. The approach may further involve determining a coefficient of certainty value from a certainty table based on the at least one input characteristic value, wherein the certainty table respectively maps one or more value intervals of the at least one input characteristic value to a pre-assigned coefficient of certainty value, and providing the coefficient of certainty value as an output associated with the traffic report.

A system, a method, and a computer program product may be provided for generating traffic congestion estimation data of one or more lanes in a region. A system may include a memory configured to store computer program code and a processor configured to execute the computer program code to obtain image data associated with the region. The processor may be configured to determine a count of one or more first movable objects in one or lanes, based on image data, calculate a lane object static capacity of the one or more lanes, based on one or more map free flow or speed limit attributes associated with the one or more lanes and generate the traffic congestion estimation data based on count of first movable objects in the one or more lanes, the moving speed of movable objects crossing multiple image frames, the lane object static capacity of lanes.

A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided to selectively utilize one or more networks in order to reliably communicate the information regarding one or more traffic signals and one or more intersections controlled by respective traffic signals. In the context of a method, the method includes communicating with a first network in order to receive information with a mobile platform regarding one or more traffic signals and information regarding one or more intersections. At least one traffic signal is associated with a respective intersection. The method also includes identifying a first switching condition and communicating with a second network, different than the first network, in order to receive the information regarding the one or more traffic signals and the information regarding the one or more intersections following identification of the first switching condition.

A method including retrieving a multi-dimensional map from a navigation system memory; determining an aerial route between two locations based at least partially upon the multi-dimensional map; and storing the aerial route in the navigation system memory. The multi-dimensional map includes terrain information and object information. The object information includes information regarding location and size of objects extending above ground level. The objects are in uncontrolled airspace, and the object information includes height information regarding a height above ground level of at least some of the objects. The aerial route is limited to the uncontrolled airspace, where the aerial route is over and around at least some of the objects, and where the aerial route is determined, at least partially, based upon the height information of the objects.

Disclosed is a method, apparatus, system and computer program configured to process traffic data and provide relevant information to a driver of a vehicle. A method that is disclosed includes receiving probe data from mobile probes; deriving, from the received probe data, an approximate traffic jam shape and traffic jam area; determining when and at what point a vehicle enters the traffic jam area, and an estimated trajectory of the vehicle within the traffic jam area; and based on the step of determining, generating and sending a message to the vehicle informing the vehicle of at least an estimated time when the vehicle will exit the traffic jam area.

In the example embodiments as described herein there is at least a method and apparatus to perform operations including monitoring probe data of car and truck traffic on at least one road segment including more than one lane; based on the monitoring, determining that an occurrence of a traffic jam ahead of the car and truck traffic on the at least one road segment is probable or occurring; and in response to the determining, selectively notifying at least one of a car and truck of the traffic of required or prohibited changes to at least one of their position and speed on the at least one road segment to prevent an occurrence of a traffic jam on the at least one road segment.

A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided to estimate the location of a vehicle based at least in part upon two or more road signs that are depicted by one or more images captured by one or more image capture devices onboard the vehicle. By relying at least in part upon the two or more road signs, the location of the vehicle may be refined or otherwise estimated with enhanced accuracy, such as in instances in which there is an inability to maintain a line-of-sight with the satellites of a satellite positioning system or otherwise in instances in which the location estimated based upon reliance on satellite or radio signals is considered insufficient. As a result, the vehicle may be navigated in a more informed and reliable manner and the relationship of the vehicle to other vehicles may be determined with greater confidence.

A method, apparatus, and computer program product are provided for detecting changes in road traffic conditions based on vehicle probe data. Methods may include: receiving a plurality of probe data points; map-matching probe data points of the plurality of probe apparatuses to road segments of a candidate road of a road networks; for a plurality of time epochs, cluster probe speeds map-matched to road segments of the candidate road according to a clustering algorithm; establishing centroid speeds corresponding to clusters of probe speeds; spatially grouping said road segments according to probe-to-cluster mapping; and providing a road traffic condition change message in response to a difference between centroid speeds along the candidate road exceeding a predefined threshold, where the road traffic condition change message includes at least information about said road segment groups that correspond to said clusters.

Abstract:
Systems and methods for vehicle routing may be based on wireless network performance data. A vehicle route includes one or more path segments included in the route based on the wireless performance data. The vehicle route may be updated based on updated wireless performance data. Driving assistance features of a vehicle may be enabled by the wireless performance data, and different driving assistance features may be enabled or disabled on the vehicle route according to changes in wireless performance data. As the vehicle traverses the route, the driving assistance features may be enabled or disabled based on the wireless performance data for the path segment. The vehicle route may be updated to continue to enable a set of the driving assistance features.
