A process for the production of ethylene vinyl acetate based polymer emulsions having solids levels greater than about 65% by weight comprising the steps of:i) providing a polymer seed selected from the group consisting of vinyl acetate, ethylene vinyl acetate, acrylic, vinyl-acrylic and styrene (meth) acrylic having a particle size of 0.15 to 2.5 microns;ii) polymerizing vinyl acetate and ethylene monomers in the presence of 5 to 15% by weight of the final emulsion of said polymer seed;said polymerization of step (ii) being carried out in the presence of a surfactant system comprising polyvinyl alcohol and a nonionic emulsifier.

The binder solution is prepared by emulsion-polymerizing a copolymer and then neutralizing the copolymer with base to make it water soluble. The binders provide a higher wet strength in concentrated salt solutions than in deionized water, and are particularly suitable for strengthening nonwoven fibrous webs in disposable articles such as wet-wipes, personal care products, diapers, and the like.

A beater saturation process for forming a nonwoven wet laid composite is provided which comprises the following steps:(I) providing an aqueous dispersion comprising:(a) 10 to 95% by weight of a water-dispersible, but water-insoluble fiber;(b) 0 to 80% by weight of a finely divided, substantially water-insoluble, non-fibrous, inorganic filler;(c) 5 to 50% by weight of an anionically charged emulsion polymer comprising 70 to 90% by weight of a vinyl ester of an alkanoic acid; 10 to 30% by weight ethylene, 0 to 70% by weight of a C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 alkyl acrylate, and 0 to 4% by weight of an anionic functional monomer,(II) colloidally destabilizing the resulting mixture to form a fibrous agglomerate in aqueous suspension;(III) distributing and draining the aqueous suspension on a porous substrate such as a wire to form a wet web; and(IV) drying the web.

Heat resistant binders for flexible nonwoven mats may be prepared using an emulsion polymer comprising 100 parts by weight of acrylate or styrene/acrylate monomers, 3 to 6 parts of a blocked, N-methylol containing comonomer, 0 to 3 parts of a water soluble non-blocked N-methylol containing comonomer and 0 to 5 parts of a multifunctional comonomer. The use of the blocked N-methylol containing comonomer permits the incorporation into the latex binders of higher levels of N-methylol functionality with consequent increase in heat resistance. As such, the binders are useful in the formation of heat resistant flexible mats for use in roofing, flooring and filtering materials.

In a Uniform Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) environment, a system management mode (SMM) driver and a non-SMM driver may be installed for the same hardware device. Until the SMM driver is available, the non-SMM driver is configured to conduct input/output (IO) transactions directly with the hardware device. The non-SMM driver can utilize native UEFI services to receive a notification that the SMM driver is available. Upon receiving such notification, (or if the SMM driver was already available before the non-SMM driver), the non-SMM driver is reconfigured to redirect all IO requests to the SMM driver, which then conducts the corresponding IO transactions directly with the hardware device. Redirecting all non-SMM IO requests for a hardware device to the SMM driver for the hardware device limits direct access to the hardware device to only one driver, the SMM driver, thereby facilitating the integrity or atomicity of IO transactions.

The present invention is directed to a cationic polymer emulsion binder that may be combined with a cationic active ingredient and used as a non-woven binder. This combination of cationic binder and cationic active ingredient may occur as a mixture of a cationic binder and at least one cationic active ingredient, which is then applied to loose fibers to form a non-woven; or the combination may occur after a non-woven is formed using a cationic binder, and said non-woven is then contacted with a cationic active ingredient. Non-woven wipes of the invention retain far less cationic active ingredients during use, resulting in less waste and less use of the active ingredients for the same effect as wipes made with anionic or non-ionic binders.
