摘要: A method and apparatus for high speed pouch or bag making from thin, heat-sensitive thermoplastic film webs or multiply webs of paper, film and foil in which the seal pattern may be simple or complex sealing and in which the method is applied to a continuously moving web and sealing is achieved at temperatures below the softening temperatures of the film or the sealing interfaces. A method of forming an open pouch comprising the steps of continuously driving an elongated web of pouch forming material at a constant speed along a pouch making path which extends continuously through a web coating station, a web collating station, an E.B. curing station and a web cutting station. A pattern of a coating is applied to a first surface of a first continuous web of pouch forming material as it is driven continuously through the web coating station to render the interface bondable at a seal line and non-bondable in the area of the storage compartment when subjected to electron beam radiation. A second web is directed into a face-to-face relationship with the first web in the collating station and the collated webs are driven through the E.B. curing station and irradiated with E.B. radiation to bond the bondable areas of the web at the interface while leaving the non-bondable areas free from securement and the pouches are cut from the webs by severing along transverse cut lines.

摘要: A machine for stacking and bundling flexible sheets, such as the signatures that are delivered from a printed press, includes a succession of aligned conveyors. The sheets are deposited on the first conveyor where they accumulate in a generally horizontal disposition, one on top of the other, and the first conveyor withdraws sheets from the bottom of this pile and conveys them to a gate in a shingled condition. At the gate, which is narrower in width than the sheets, the sheets bow forwardly and rise upwardly at their leading edges until they stand on edge. It is in this condition that the sheets pass onto a second conveyor which moves them through another gate that is narrower than the first gate, so that the degree of bowing increases. The second conveyor moves slower than the first conveyor and as a result the flexible sheets consolidate in the upright condition on the second conveyor. Upon emerging from the second gate, the sheets pass between side conveyors which are closer together than the width of the sheets, and these conveyors also extend along a third conveyor. After a predetermined number of sheets have passed onto the third conveyor, that conveyor speeds up momentarily to produce a gap in the sheets, thereby separating the sheets ahead of the gap into a bundle which is forced onto a final conveyor. Boards are placed at the ends of the bundle, and the bundle is compressed and bound while in the compressed condition.

摘要: A tapping accessory for use with the chuck of a rotary-operated machine such as a drill press or lathe in which a tap tool is detachably secured to one end of a body, and a first guide element is on the other end of the body. A second guide element is telescopically related and rotatively mounted to the first guide element on a longitudinal axis and is adapted to be gripped in the chuck of the rotary-operated machine. A handle is detachably secured to the body between the tap-connecting assembly and the guide elements for turning the body and tap tool manually about the axis of the guide elements. More particularly, the first and second guide elements are at the same side of the handle, while the tap-connecting assembly is at the opposite side of the handle. In one embodiment, the first guide element is a socket in the said other end of the body, while the second guide element is a spindle slidably and rotatively received in the socket. The handle is located in a transverse bore at the bottom of the socket, the spindle engaging the handle to determine the retracted position of the spindle in the socket. More particularly, in the one embodiment, the handle extends through either of a pair of transverse bores so that when located in one transverse bore located between the socket and the tap-connecting assembly, the device is adapted for turning the tap tool about the axis of the spindle and socket, and when located in the other transverse bore located through the socket adjacent the said other body end, the device is adapted for use as a manual tap wrench.

摘要: A technique for use in security screening and detection contexts employs an X-ray explosive imager that acquires images from backscattered RF modulated X-ray signals on which a time series analysis is performed to detect image change across the time series of images that represent pixels changing at the rate of the difference frequency of the RF frequency and the a priori NQR signature frequencies.

An electromagnetic impulse transmission system includes a plasma antenna, an electromagnetic impulse generator electrically coupled with the plasma antenna, and a ground plane operably associated with the plasma antenna. A method includes the steps of providing a plasma antenna generator, an electromagnetic impulse generator, and a ground plane structure; generating a plasma antenna with the plasma antenna generator; and transmitting an electromagnetic impulse from the electromagnetic impulse generator to the plasma antenna. The method further includes radiating the electromagnetic impulse from the plasma antenna such that at least a portion of the electromagnetic impulse is reflected by the ground plane structure.
