摘要: Specialized sheets, for example, in the construction of business forms, having patterns of pressure activated cohesive are constructed so that all the sheets can be identical yet when the sheets are in a stack blocking of the pressure activated cohesive, and subsequent feeding problems, are eliminated by making the cohesive patterns offset a dimension "d" perpendicular to the direction of feed of the forms from a feed bin through an imaging device to an output tray. Either the feed bin, or an edge guide of the output tray, can be shifted at least the dimension "d" to automatically align the pressure activated cohesive patterns on cooperating first and second sheets, and after proper alignment of the cohesive patterns the sheets may be fed through a conventional pressure sealer. An inserter may be provided for inserting a confidential information sheet between the cohesive pattern-containing sheets, and/or confidential information may be imaged on the inside faces of the sealed packet formed by the sheets using a non-impact printer or facsimile machine.

摘要: A zipper for a recloseable bag provides a heat-settable portion for adhering the zipper to a polymeric bag at a temperature below that known in the art in order to prevent permanently sealing the bag closed inadvertantly. The zipper includes elongated base strips having flange portions for adhering the inner surface of the base strip to the outer surface of a polymeric bag. The base strip is adhered to the polymeric bag by a heat-setting compound coextruded, coated or laminated to the inner surface of the flange. The flange portions may be thinner than other portions of the base strips to permit the flange portions to be fused to the polymeric bag at a lower temperature than previously practiced.

摘要: Gum applying apparatus including a pair of gum applying dies mounted on a common shaft for applying gum along and adjacent to the side edges of an envelope blank during the manufacture of the blank into an envelope. Each of the dies includes a central circular plate and a pair of circular sectors spaced from each other about the circumference of the circular plate. The sectors are in contact with a gummer roll which transfers gum from a container to the sectors. The gum is applied by the sectors to spaced envelope blanks on a conveyor belt beneath the sectors. The space between the sectors is adjacent the conveyor when the space between the blanks on the conveyor traverses the gum applying station thereby precluding gum from being applied to the belt running through the station; but enabling the gum to be applied continually to the envelope blanks. Means are also disclosed to control the amount of gum transferred to the gum applying die sectors.

摘要: An apparatus for applying latex sealing material to the facing closure flap and opposed body portion of an envelope includes a continuous belt driven conveying means having a generally triangular path, with the envelopes being fed onto the conveying means at one point in the triangle, with the conveying means gripping each of a series of envelopes along its folded edge portion opposite the flap. As the envelopes are conveyed, the flap is first unfolded through an angle of approximately 180.degree. to a generally horizontal position, after which the envelope is passed between an impression roller and a latex applicator roller at which latex is applied to the facing closure flap and the body portion of the envelope. The impression roller and glue roller are disposed at the second point of the triangular path of the conveying means, and next the envelopes are passed through a dielectric dryer for drying the latex sealing material. Upon leaving the dielectric dryer, the path of the conveyor means passes through the third point of the triangle, and progresses back toward the original starting point. At the latter point, means are provided for removing the envelopes from the conveyor means. By this arrangement, a single operator may readily feed and unload the apparatus of the subject invention. In the method for applying strips of latex to the envelope, the envelopes are fed to the conveying means, the flap closures are sequentially rotated to a generally horizontal position in order to next enable the application of latex to both the inside surface of the flap closure and the opposed body portion of the envelope, after which, the envelopes are passed through a dielectric dryer means to dry the latex material. Finally, the envelopes are removed from the conveying means and stacked.

摘要: A method and apparatus for making a self-sealable packaging, and the self-sealable packaging and method of use are disclosed. The apparatus includes dispensing a web and converting it by folding or by welding two webs together to provide upper and lower layers defining a pocket therebetween. A line of weakness is provided in an extension on the lower web, and a release liner is positioned over the line of weakness in spanning relationship, with a pattern of adhesive applied between the release liner and the extension below the line of weakness. The release liner is secured to the extension above the line of weakness, and the web is sealed along side boundaries and separated therealong to provide individual bags. The pocket of the bag is sized to receive an article, such as a newspaper therein. After insertion of the newspaper, the extension is separated along the line of weakness to provide a flap carrying the adhesive. The flap is folded over the opening of the pocket to adhesively secure the newspaper therein.

摘要: A method and apparatus for high speed pouch or bag making from thin, heat-sensitive thermoplastic film webs or multiply webs of paper, film and foil in which the seal pattern may be simple or complex sealing and in which the method is applied to a continuously moving web and sealing is achieved at temperatures below the softening temperatures of the film or the sealing interfaces. A method of forming an open pouch comprising the steps of continuously driving an elongated web of pouch forming material at a constant speed along a pouch making path which extends continuously through a web coating station, a web collating station, an E.B. curing station and a web cutting station. A pattern of a coating is applied to a first surface of a first continuous web of pouch forming material as it is driven continuously through the web coating station to render the interface bondable at a seal line and non-bondable in the area of the storage compartment when subjected to electron beam radiation. A second web is directed into a face-to-face relationship with the first web in the collating station and the collated webs are driven through the E.B. curing station and irradiated with E.B. radiation to bond the bondable areas of the web at the interface while leaving the non-bondable areas free from securement and the pouches are cut from the webs by severing along transverse cut lines.
