摘要: The invention relates to a real time radiation treatment planning system for use in effecting radiation therapy of a pre-selected anatomical portion of an animal body using hollow needles. According to embodiments of the invention, the system may include a processing means processing means-configured to perform a three-dimensional imaging algorithm and a three-dimensional image segmentation algorithm, with respect to one or more specific organs within the pre-selected anatomical portion and with respect to the needles, for converting the image data obtained with an imaging means into a three-dimensional image of the anatomical portion, using at least one single or multi-objective anatomy-based genetic optimization algorithm. For pre-planning or virtual simulation purposes, the processing means is arranged to determine in real time the optimal number and position of at least one of the needles, positions of energy emitting sources within the needles, and the dwell times of the energy emitting sources at the positions. For post-planning purposes, the processing means is arranged to determine, based on three-dimensional image information, in real time the real needle positions and the dwell times of the energy emitting sources for the positions.

摘要: A device for implanting radioactive seeds and non-radioactive spacers in a desired configuration in an animal body for effecting radiation therapy. An elongated hollow needle is inserted in the body. A pushing element implants the row of seeds and spacers though the hollow needle towards the desired location. A tube shaped element receives the row of seeds and spacers. A lube shaped sleeve having open ends is used to insert the tube shaped element through the needle and toward the location. The pushing elements pushes the row of seeds and spacers into the desired location while still being carried in the tube shaped element.

摘要: The invention relates to a device and method for inserting a needle in an animal body for effecting radiation therapy in the body, including a template for positioning the needles to be inserted, needle drive structure for drive a needle through said template towards a desired location in the body, and real-time imaging structure for creating and presenting an image of the desired location and the position of said needle during the insertion of said needle. Due to the fact that the bevelled tip of a hollow needle cause the needle to diverge away from the “line of insertion or movement” and away from the actual desired position in the animal body adversely affecting the dosimetry quality of the implanted seeds a more accurate insertion of the needle is required. According to the invention the device is provided with adjusting structure for adjusting a movement of said needle towards said desired location during insertion.

摘要: An irradiation apparatus has at least one exchangeable radiation source that may be moved by means of a transport cable between at least one rest position and at least one irradiation position and a long-distance transport container for radiation sources to be exchanged. In order to reduce the danger of control errors, the rest position is located inside the long-distance transport container and the transport container forms or may form an integral part of the irradiation apparatus. For that purpose, interface elements are provided on the transport container and other parts of the irradiation apparatus. By winding and unwinding the transport cable on and from a feeding drum with a cable-receiving groove at least partially covered by a pressing strip, particularly thin transport cables may be used, so that the width of the pressing strip substantially corresponds to the width of the cable-receiving groove. The pressing strip is helically wound in the cable-receiving groove around the feeding drum, in the axial or radial direction with respect to the feeding drum, and the cable-receiving groove is thus covered in a substantially uninterrupted manner. Means for lifting, preferably also for deflecting and lowering again the pressing strip, may be moved along the transport cable in relation to the feeding drum in order to let free an output joint for the transport cable from the feeding drum.
