Fe alloy containing Si more than 4.0 wt % is produced by a thin plate casting process. The producing condition depends upon rapid solidification of Fe alloy from a molten condition at cooling rate of more than 1.degree. C./sen to less than 10.sup.5 .degree. C./sec.The obtained thin cast plates are subjected to a hot rolling of more than 30% at the temperature range of 600.degree. to 800.degree. C., and to the cold rolling to a determined thickness, followed pickling. By the above mentioned conditions, operations of the industrial scale may be practiced without cracks on the surface in the cold rolling excellent magnetic characteristics may be provided by passing the annealing after the cold rolling.

The hot finish rolling is performed at temperature of not more than 1100.degree. C. and under a total reduction which is specified by a relation between average grain diameter before the hot finish rolling and Si content, and coiled at temperature of not more than 750.degree. C. after the rolling. The hot rolled plate is performed with cold rolling or warm rolling after the descaling and hot rolled strip annealing. If required, an intermediate annealing is performed in the course of the cold (or warm) rolling.

An ordinarily made thin steel sheet is placed in an atmosphere bearing SiCl.sub.4, and subjecting to Si penetrating treatment at temperatures between 1100.degree. C. and 1200.degree. C. for a determined period of time. A heating rate is used which is more than 50.degree. C./sec at the temperatures of more than 1000.degree. C. in the SiCl.sub.4 atmosphere.Thereby, it is possible to manufacture thin steel sheet of high magnetic permeability without internal defects.

In a continuous annealing operation of a cold rolled steel strip involving water quenching and over-aging treatments, a method employing a cooling system comprising a pair of rolls arranged to contact the surfaces of a steel strip, a pair of cooling water spray units arranged in symmetrical positions on both sides of the steel strip and a storage tank connected to the spray units. When the steel strip, heated to a temperature between 500.degree. to 800.degree. C is water quenched, the distortion of the strip during the water quenching is inhibited and the surface oxidation is reduced to such an extent that no supplementary pickling is required.

The present invention relates to a process for making non-oriented high Si steel sheet without problems during the sequence from the step of making molten steel to the step of rolling to final sheet thickness. An ingot (or a continuously cast piece) of high Si steel (containing 4.0 to 7.0% Si and specified with Al, Mn, C and P) is subjected to slabbing-hot rolling (or else directly slab rolling-hot rolling) and subsequently the hot rolled steel is reduced to thin thickness. The steel material is maintained at temperature of more than a determined temperature from the step of making molten steel to the step of hot rolling. In the step of hot rolling, information regarding finish rolling conditions and coiling conditions is used to provide structure suitable for the subsequent thin rolling. The hot rolled steel is then warm-rolled to the required thickness.

The present invention resides in the discovery that the specific interaction between neuregulin 1 (NRG1) and integrin is important for ErbB signaling, which in turn plays an important role in cellular signaling in various physiological processes such as cell proliferation, especially in cancer cells overexpressing ErbB family members. Thus, this invention provides for a novel method for inhibiting ErbB signaling by using an inhibitor of NRG1-integrin binding. A method for identifying inhibitors of NRG1-integrin binding is also described. Further disclosed are polypeptides, nucleic acids, and corresponding compositions for inhibiting ErbB signaling.

A silicon steel sheet having low iron loss of high frequency has a surface layer of the steel sheet which has Si concentration higher than Si concentration of a center portion of the steel sheet. Si concentration of sheet thickness center is 3.4 wt. % or more and Si concentration of the surface layer of the steel sheet is 5 wt. % or more. Si concentration in a surface layer portion is 5 to 8 wt. %. The production method comprises siliconizing treatment and diffusing treatment. Velocity of siliconizing and diffusing are controlled, and Si concentration distribution in the sheet thickness direction of the steel sheet is controlled.

The present invention provides a method for inhibiting cell proliferation in a cell comprising contacting the cell with a nucleic acid sequence or a polypeptide having essentially the sequence of the .beta..sub.1C integrin. Also included in the invention are peptides consisting of amino acid residues which are the size of or fewer than the sequence of the cytoplasmic domain of the .beta..sub.1C integrin consisting essentially of the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:1 and SEQ ID NO:2, and functional fragments thereof which are useful for inhibiting cellular proliferation. Peptides, polynucleotides, and antibodies immunoreactive with the peptides, and methods of use for inhibiting cell growth are also provided.

The present invention relates to the discovery that a secretory phospholipase A2 (sPLA2-IIA) plays an active role in mediating inflammatory signaling by way of its specific binding with integrin, especially integrin αvβ3 or α4β1. More specifically, the invention provides a method for identifying inhibitors of inflammatory signaling by screening for compounds that interrupt the specific binding of sPLA2 and integrin. The invention also provides the novel use of a substance that suppresses the specific binding between sPLA2 and integrin for treating or preventing an inflammatory condition.
