    摘要: A ceramic body, a ceramic catalyst body, a ceramic catalyst body and related manufacturing methods are disclosed wherein a cordierite porous base material has a surface, formed with acicular particles made of a component different from that of cordierite porous base material, which has an increased specific surface area with high resistance to a sintering effect. The ceramic body is manufactured by preparing a slurry containing an acicular particle source material, preparing a porous base material, applying the slurry onto a surface of the porous base material and firing the porous base material, whose surface is coated with the slurry, to cause acicular particles to develop on the surface of the porous base material. A part of or a whole of surfaces of the acicular particles is coated with a constituent element different from that of the acicular particles.

    摘要: The present invention provides a needle-shaped ceramic body and needle-shaped ceramic catalyst body in which a case material is a high specific surface area porous cordierite body that is stable at high temperatures, and also provides methods of producing this needle-shaped ceramic body and needle-shaped ceramic catalyst body. The present invention relates to a needle-shaped ceramic body and needle-shaped ceramic catalyst body in which a base material is a high temperature-stable, high specific surface area porous cordierite body comprising a porous structure having a prescribed porosity and formed of a needle-shaped cordierite crystal phase and further relates to methods of producing this needle-shaped ceramic body and needle-shaped ceramic catalyst body, and by using porous cordierite constituted of needle-shaped crystals as a catalyst-supporting honeycomb structure, the present invention is able to inhibit sintering-induced reduction in the specific surface area. Since a honeycomb can be directly produced as the cordierite sinter itself, an inexpensive product can be provided through the simplifying the prior-art step of coating the interior of the honeycomb.

    摘要: A gas sensing element for detecting a specified gas concentration in measuring gases is disclosed. The gas sensing element has at least a surface layer portion formed with an alumina composite sintered body having a principal component of alumina. The alumina composite sintered body contains alumina particles and dispersion particles, dispersed in a boundary between the alumina particles or in the alumina particles, which have an average particle diameter smaller than that of the alumina particles. The dispersion particles have particle-to-particle distances with an average of 4 μm or less and a standard deviation of 1.8 or less. The dispersion particles have particle diameters with an average of 0.2 μm or less and a standard deviation of 0.05 or less.

    摘要: A cordierite honeycomb body is produced by forming a cordierite material including kaoline into a honeycomb shape and sintering it. The kaoline included in the cordierite material is at least partly composed of kaolinite having a Hinckley crystallinity index of 0.5 or more thereby having a less amorphous phase portion in a kaolinite particle. Therefore, when the cordierite material is sintered, the number of micropores generated in the cordierite is decreased due to the less amorphous phase portion in the kaolinite particles. As a result, density of the cordierite is increased without increasing a C.T.E. thereof. Thus, the cordierite honeycomb body has sufficient strength even when thickness of a cell wall thereof is decreased.
