A slide fastener having a split arrester for preventing a pair of interengaged fastener stringers S from accidental splitting when a slider is removed. The split arrester comprises interlocking male and female members mounted on a pair of fastener stringers contiguously to the respective terminal portions of opposed coupling element rows and substantially equal in thickness and width of the coupling elements E. The male member has a locking tongue portion projecting from an attachment base portion toward the female member and terminated in a protuberance. The female member has a locking hollow portion, for receiving the locking tongue portion and having a pair of resilient catch portions for gripping the neck of the protuberance from opposite sides in the direction of thickness of the fastener tape.

Thereby, the manual torque applied to the shift rod to turn the same to a forward and reverse position is assisted by the hydraulic actuator with a minimum modification to a purely manual arrangement for shifting the power transmission mechanism.

In an outboard marine motor including an upper case (4) enclosing an engine (E) and a lower case (5) fitted with a propeller (12) and connected to a lower end of the upper case, the lower case is configured to be turned relative to the upper case around a vertical axial line. The power of the engine is transmitted to the propeller via a vertical drive shaft (10) which is coaxial with the vertical axial line. Thereby, the outboard marine motor can be steered simply by turning the lower case. Because the upper case having a relatively large lateral dimension as compared with the lower case is not required to be turned, a large steering angle can be achieved without the outboard marine motor interfering with watercraft having the outboard marine motor mounted thereon. This is particularly beneficial when two or more outboard marine motors are used one next to the other.
