At least one sensor is disposed near a part of the crank mechanism which moves in operation relative to the machine's housing. The connection of the sensor with the evaluation device is guided at least in part via the crankshaft. This provides a simple and effective monitoring option for the friction bearings of the crank mechanism and for other machine-specific parameters.

In an air-cooled internal combustion engine with one or more cylinder banks, a cooling-air blower and an intercooler for the air charge, the intercooler--as seen in the flow direction of the cooling-air--is placed directly in front of the cylinder bank, i.e. preferably over its entire length. The intercooler is subject to the full stream of cooling-air passing through the cylinder bank. A comparison of conventional designs and the arrangement described by the invention shows that the power requirements of the blower are reduced by as much as 15% in conventional assemblies, and by even 20% in special-purpose vehicles as described below.

A method for increasing the maneuverability and driving stability of an automotive vehicle during cornering, the rotational behavior or the wheel slip of the individual vehicle wheels is monitored, and the distribution of the brake force to the curve-outward wheels compared to the brake force conducted to the curve-inward wheels is varied in dependence on the wheel rotational behavior and on the slip of the wheels. When cornering is detected, a total deceleration of the vehicle that corresponds to the driver's request is determined, and a vehicle deceleration that corresponds to the driver's request is achieved by increasing the brake force at the curve-outward wheels and decreasing or maintaining the brake force at the curve-inward wheels.

Cone, bosses and supporting elements are made in one piece. The supporting elements comprise walls extending essentially parallel to the axis of the piston pin. First distance (A) to the outer perimeter of the piston in the direction of the piston pin axis (Y--Y) are greater than the corresponding second distances (B) normal to this axis. The end parts of the walls are curved inwardly and leave open an area around an axis (X--X) normal to the piston pin axis.
