    摘要: Poly(aryloxyphosphazene) copolymers are prepared having randomly repeating units represented by the formula: ##STR1## wherein R and R.sup.1 may be the same or different and are selected from the group consisting of monovalent aryl radicals and substituted aryl radicals having the structure: ##STR2## wherein X is a substituent selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkoxy, aryl, aryloxy, amino and halogen substituted on any sterically permissible position on the phenyl group; and wherein the amount of Cl present in the form of P--C1 bonds is from about 0.4 percent to about 10 percent by weight based upon the total weight of copolymer.The copolymers may contain minor proportions of randomly distributed units in addition to the repeating units described above, these additional units containing reactive sites enabling the properties of the copolymers to be modified by crosslinking and/or curing.The copolymers are elastomeric even in the absence of low molecular weight polyphosphazene oils. The copolymers are curable by a variety of curing agents such as sulfur and peroxides, and can also be cured by radiation and ultraviolet light. The copolymers may be utilized in various applications such as foams and coatings, and are particularly suited for use in wire coating formulations.

No. 3,853,794 is achieved by treating such polyphosphazenes with organic amines, preferably in solution. The polyphosphazenes are chemically modified as a result of such treatment and are converted from tough fibrous materials to relatively soft readily processed products.

    摘要: Adhesive compositions for bonding EPDM elastomers comprise (a) a neutralized sulfonated EPDM elastomeric terpolymer; (b) an organic hydrocarbon solvent; (c) an ionic plasticizer or mixture of ionic plasticiziers; (d) a phenolic hydrocarbon resin or mixture of phenolic hydrocarbon resins and (e) a material selected from mineral oils, petroleum oils, polybutenes, polyisobutylenes and ethylene/propylene copolymers. Such adhesive compositions are particularly suitable for bonding sheets of black EPDM, especially sheets of cured black EPDM, elastomeric membranes together and may also be utilized to bond sheets of cured black EPDM to other uncured elastomers and to non-elastomeric substrates as well.The adhesive compositions to proper selection of the component (e) material and the addition of a color pigment or dye thereto may also be used to bond colored EPDM elastomers such as white, blue, yellow, green, etc.An adhesive composition for bonding sheets of EPDM elastomeric roofing membrane in cases where the membrane is to be anchored to the roof surface by mechanical systems will further contain a hydrophobic silica.

    摘要: An adhesive tape composition includes a polymer blend comprising at least one ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer and at least one fully saturated adhesive-enhancing polymer miscible with said at least one ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer. The tape adhesive composition further includes at least one tackifying additive compatible with said polymer blend and a sulfur and organic accelerator cure package for said polymer blend, the adhesive composition being devoid of butyl rubber which is found in most other adhesive tape compositions. This composition is seen as providing excellent long-term heat aging, weathering resistance, and low temperature properties as compared to adhesive tape compositions containing butyl rubber. Moreover, the adhesive tape composition provides more surface tack, better "quick-grab", and higher green strength as compared to adhesive tape compositions containing 100 percent EPDM rubber. A method is also provided for covering roofs which includes the step of employing the adhesive tape composition.

    摘要: A method for reducing the surface tack of EPDM and related elastomers is provided. The method involves coating the surfaces of the elastomer with particulate cellulose. Sheets of cellulose coated elastomer can be subjected to rolling up and curing operations without encountering surface sticking problems. In addition, the cellulose coated surfaces of the elastomer can be bonded together for the purpose of forming splices or seams without the necessity for first removing the cellulose coating.

    摘要: The production of phosphazene polymers represented by the general formula ##STR1## WHEREIN N IS AN INTEGER FROM 7 TO UPWARDS OF 50,000 WHEREIN ONE OR MORE KINDS OF OR or OR' groups is attached to the phosphorus atoms in a substantially linear chain of alternating P and N atoms, the groups when more than one group is present being randomly distributed along the PN backbone, is enhanced by employing a single solvent for both each of the reactants (polydihalophosphazene and either aryloxide and/or alkoxide) and for the product (phosphazene polymer). By this expedient, the formation of the desired product is achieved in a homogeneous system rather than in a heterogeneous system as in the prior art where different solvents were employed for each of the reactants and for the reaction products.
