A system and method for performing parallel magnetic resonance imaging (“MRI”) with a polarizable or hyperpolarizable contrast agent are provided. The contrast agent may be provided in the form of a gas, a liquid, or a solid. The system may include a phased-array rigid coil with, e.g., a 24-channel phased-array for a receiver and a 2-channel large loop for a transmitter. The phased-array rigid coil can be connected to a low impedance preamplifier for decoupling the strong coupling between two adjacent coils in the phased-array rigid coil. The system and method may be used for enhancing the signal-to-noise ratio, and/or reducing the scan acquisition time of acquired images in a parallel MRI scan of a patient who is breathing a hyperpolarized gas.

The present invention provides for microfluidic devices and methods for their use. The invention further provides for apparatus and systems for using the microfluidic devices, analyze reactions carried out in the microfluidic devices, and systems to generate, store, organize, and analyze data generated from using the microfluidic devices. The invention further provides methods of using and making microfluidic systems and devices which, in some embodiments, are useful for crystal formation. In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a platen having a platen face with one or more fluid ports therein. The fluid ports spatially correspond to one or more wells on a surface of the microfluidic device. A platform for holding the microfluidic device relative to the platen is included, and a platen actuator for urging the platen against the microfluidic device so that at least one of the fluid ports of the platen is urged against one of the wells to form a pressure chamber comprising the well and the port, so that when pressurized fluid is introduced or removed into or from the pressure chamber through one of the ports, fluid pressure is changed therein.

This method includes the step of interleaving a first slice-selective inversion recovery pulse within two slice-selective echo trains resulting from two other slice-selective inversion recovery pulses generated prior to the first pulse during a rapid spin echo sequence. In other words, the first slice-selective inversion recovery pulse is generated after receiving a first slice-selective echo train resulting from a second slice-selective inversion recovery pulse generated prior to the first pulse and before receiving a second slice-selective echo train resulting from a third slice-selective inversion recovery pulse generated prior to the generation of the first pulse.
